Thanks Fire, Alan and Fran. It was coming out of the soil in the pot - I wondered if it had become too dry in there.

Romeo and Juliet! Trying to have my morning coffee on the patio, when these two parked themselves on the railings. Photo taken on my iPad, isn’t good enough to go on the Insects of the day thread!

Wow, Lyn, that’s wonderful! Are they long eared bats? Your roof lining is in very good nick, by the way.
  • Apparently bat droppings make very good loft insulation.

@Ergates They are long eared bats.
Alan, we should be well insulated then😀
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Have the bats been there long @Lyn , meaning years, or is this new. Might they move after using your loft as a brood den, then go on to their winter roost?
  • Had a wildlife encounter I'd rather not have had yesterday.  I went to check the ripeness of the victoria plums.  Or should I say plum?  Squirrel had taken the lot bar one in the course of a single day, the sneaky little bu&&er!  What's worse is the remaining one (which I was determined to eat immediately, in the hope he/she was watching) was a bit too high, and I accidentally broke the branch when I bent it into reach. :'(
The tree will probably get Silver Leaf disease now, knowing my luck!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Scrumpers caught in the act.   The deer is eating raspberries. The slow motion bit (10% normal speed) is a bat but it seems quite large and I don't know what sort.  The garden probably ought to be in the shameful corner. Due to circumstances beyond my control it has had little maintenance since June.
