I saw a lovely Peregrine sat on a clock tower like a gargoyle today. The ground below was littered with bits of pigeon so you could tell he'd be up there without even looking.

I have a particular attachment to wood pigeons too @Fairygirl. They remind me of one day when my 5 year old son screamed "Muuuuuum! there's a humongous bird in the garden!!". Golden moments <3.

  • Just watching the Heron hunting for frogs in our pond, a study in the skills of stealth and patience. Unfortunately Arthur and his family (our regular crows) turned up for their regular pond snail breakfast mid-hunt. I suspect all their bouncing, cawing and snail crunching won’t help the Heron 🤣

  • In the area I go to feed my local birds each morning (garden is rubbish for birds), there is one female chaffinch who I like. She seems to have lots of personality and is quite bolshy. I've been worried she won't have a mate so you can imagine my relief at seeing a male arrive in the last couple of weeks. I've just got to hope they fancy each other 😁

I've seen a blackcap (male) and a goldcrest today.  The tree surgeons next door decided to exercise their alsatians on the site.  The poor deer is panicked enough as it is. Cue lots of emails being fired off to the builders.  Yes, we have videos to prove it.  Absolutely no one is willing to do anything about it.  Oh and today I was accused of "planting" the deer on the site.  Yeah, I just nipped up to Sherwood Forest, shoved one in the boot and let her go when I got back home.  Some people.  Council, police, RSPCA, local animal rescues, deer society, not one willing or able to do anything, so they set dogs on her.  I don't know whether to scream or go and kick shit out of one of the men on site.

@fidgetbones that's awful! Nobody seems to care about wildlife nowadays.
Going to your local paper can 'raise awareness' though. 😉 It's amazing how quickly that can get results.

Already done that. Derby Evening Telegraph did a piece.

  • That's so frustrating, @fidgetbones !  I can't believe nobody will step in.

God that sounds far too close to a speech someone gave at my wedding :#
