  • I don't mean READING my book.  image  Watching an interesting and varied GW.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Well l enjoyed it and am looking forward to programmes to come. I like to learn something new about plants, so the delphinium segment was good for me. I would never have known to thin out the stems else. The delphinium grower was informative and l saw flowers l never knew existed e.g. doubles. Adam is always worth watching . I like his laid back approach, the soil bit was educational and I'm looking forward to seeing his amazing garden evolve, a bit jealous too. The Liverpool bit was good. I would have liked to see the presenter get the couple outside to help so they could learn from her. The weather was helpful, it was dress down Friday guys. Anyhow we all wanted more , longer GW. Do you remember how cross we were when it was cancelled for the snooker, and the petition that was  supported by so many. They listened to the masses, and there was GW to watch through the tennis and the Olympics. So from me thank you BBC ?

Mmmmmmmm......... I love GW as its for real gardeners. I understand about plant genus and didn't really need the "buttercup' malarkey. Yes many plants are related to them, but you wouldn't be daft enough to plant buttercups. On the other hand you might and if so go and have a word with yourself.

I think that's quite patronising. Not everyone understands about plant genus - in fact, I'd say more people who garden don't understand it. In the past few years, several people here have nurtured weeds and asked for help with ID on them as they've thought they were plants. New gardeners don't instantly have experience, and they should feel able to ask those questions without being ridiculed.

Learning about what plants are is fascinating and many people will have enoyed an interesting bit of info like that.

Mind you, what do I know? I was entranced by a programme a few years ago devoted to weeds . Mainly my nemesis - the willow herb   image

I personally felt the programme was ok. There are things I don't care for and things I do, but I've felt that way about G'sW for many years. Skip what you don't like.  image

On balance, I thought it a great improvement. 8/10

Far from being " a winning formula" ( can't remember who said that ) GW viewing figures are heading down year on year. so it's not " winning" It needs to attract more viewers.

Different segments/ presenters , for me, was great. Nice to see Tropicals getting a look in for a long overdue change.

Alan's garden project should be riveting.

    Enthusiastic new faces.

Not keen on the Toxteth section thought. Plants did seem too low as others have said and I'm not sure they're not targets for theives ( thefts from garden are on the increase ). One big, HEAVY chunky planter might have been better for that situation.

I too thought the weather section pointless. Nowadays with so many apps, internet and 24 hour tv, I didn't see the need for a weather forecast.

For me, shoot me down now, still too many soppy images of dozing dogs.

I thought the balance of dogginess was much better - plenty of shots including them for those who want to see them, but fewer shots solely of dogs sans garden.

Agree about the weather bit - can't really see the point as it's so easy to get a forecast that is much more specific to where you live than a TV one can offer. But it didn't offend me - as Dove said, maybe it's more about acknowledging the impact of the weather than anything else.

I loved the rest. A bit more information info in the Toxteth bit would have been sensible, but I think that bit was just to illustrate what can be achieved even in a tiny, concrete space - maybe in future she'll show more practical stuuf? Am now desperate to get to Kew, more informed about delphiniums and excited about Adam Frost's garden project. I thought the little bit about soil types was useful, enjoyed seeing the tropical garden and like the idea of discussing plants by botanical family.

Oh I did enjoy it :-).

Bulkerb - if you're an RHS member you have a monthly magazine and a yearly handbook to tell you about the gardens you can visit for inspiration.

Aym - 45 minute programmes are on ITV so they can schedule adverts that make them an hour long.   Try recording GW so you can dip in and out according to your attention span, or watch it on i-player.

I love the idea of an hour of gardening allowing GW to cover more aspects of gardening and types of gardens.   I have always recorded it as the Friday night scheduling is bad for me but that means I can watch again the bits of special interest and FF the ones that aren't.

Look in the members' handbook and on their website.   They've changed the system since I last used the service.

Well I liked it image didn't see any harm in the weather forecast. Cant wait to see what adam does with the new garden.

  • Aym280 here is the link https://www.rhs.org.uk/membership/rhs-members-seed-scheme  I emailed them last year and got the list sent through that way.  It came in the post but I ended up not getting any.  I know a few people that did though.

  • I  enjoyed every minute of it! Didn't want it to end....
