You'd still need some fairly strong stems for the upright parts tho. I wonder how well cornus would work given that it wouldn't have to be as tall as my obelisk.
For holding the supports in place you need an upturned cardboard fruit box - well that's how our teacher showed us and then you do a simple weave to hold the base secure before getting fancy higher up.

A box is a great idea - better than having to drill a board. Vinca, ivy etc might work for the weaving, not the uprights. I will give it a go. I have some dry wicker willow ready to go.
Oh, I really love the red fox card! I'm getting quite attached to foxes lately. We keep seeing them in the general area and right on our rural cabin property. Here in the city, we also have a nightly gray fox visit us. We think he is actually living somewhere in our garden. We found a den last winter, but my husband filled it with rocks and dirt as I twist and sprain my ankles on everything........not good at my age. Hasn't deterred our little visitor since, however. Perhaps he has dug another.
I saw a little ginger coloured fox walking up our hill last week, Peggy. Lovely smooth gait. It didn’t look to right or left, just walking in a straight line up the hill. I’m not sure where it came from. We rarely see them here. I suppose our rabbit or hare population has been diminished, though. Our Roos are quick enough to get away I assume, and besides they’re usually with Mum, so they’d be protected.
