Just reading back - @Dovefromabove your knitted baby things are beautiful. How lovely to have a new baby expected in the family that you can knit for. The last ones in my family, the young mum said in no uncertain terms that she did not want any hand-knitted items for them - soooo old-fashioned - in her view! I think they're much nicer than anything you can buy.

  • Think there’s now a trend back to handknits for babies for ‘special occasions’ at least … and I tried to pick colours other than the traditional pastels … also I used natural cotton and silk yarns for the matinee jackets … so they do look a bit special. 😊

First of all you are all amazing crafters, that kitchen island is beautiful @CrankyYankee. The Christmas decorations are also lovely @Obelixx
And now I am going to google a Sizzix machine ....

@Fire - I've seen an image on FB made by hammering a fiery oriental hibiscus flower onto a piece of linen.   I suspect it might work really well using the Sissix if I pass it back and forth a few times.  She used it as the centerpiece for a slow stitching collage.

I have tried fresh petals. I think the juiciness has to be a very specific point to be able to get a good result - not too splatted, wet and unformed and not to dried out and empty. It may be two or three days after picking, depending on the petals. It's the same with ironing and hammering petals.

I experimented in the spring with using spray fixative to see if I could keep the colour. I don't think it did much.

I have a lot of petals dried and ready to use. I hope to get to mordanting cloth over Dec. It's quite a long process. I hope to be able to fix colour on fabric.
