Morning all. Another hot and sunny day up in Manchester ?

Need to move some shelves out of the plastic greenhouse today to make room for tomatoes, it's so warm in there but it has to be done.

Clarington: just reading some of your posts makes me feel tired, don't know where you find the energy for your busy work schedule and 5 mile walks etc.

Heading off to the GOS with my slothful ways image Might do some lazy gardening later.

Joyce I'm in the West of Northern Ireland in the glorious lakes. My dad always said "you can't have a lake district without rain" when anyone complained about the weather. There have been floods and thunderstorms quite nearby but not a drop here. We're all just waiting. It's like impending doom!!!!

Too hot to be in the sun, so I have watered and will wait until the veg patch is in shadow.

I'll let you know when it gets as far as my mum. She's on the East and you're only a swim's throw from there. image

Roast parsnips glazed in honey! Wonderful!

Kitty: lots of cups of tea, multi vitamins, and falling asleep at 21:00 image We only had a 2 mile walk this morning as we found another dog to play with and I took advantage of that wearing him out! I have a step counter on my phone: you'd be amazed how quickly miles rack up.

But since I weighed myself this morning (agh) I obviously need to pound the streets some more. I seem to have acquired a little too much excess!

Afternoon all,  Hope you are all well.   Have read back but everything has gone straight out of my head.

I know someone had a fall on gravel so I hope you feel better and that not too much damage was done.

Hazel I love parsnips, especially in stew when it's cold and wet.

Pdoc, I suspect you will only get your solar charger on line, although I suppose a camping specialist might stock them.

Spent yesterday looking after Jonah as he has a cold, so does his mum, so she caught up on some much needed sleep while I had lots of cuddles.

While I was away on Nanna duty mum had an accident in the home.  Someone put a really hot cup of Oxo on the table next to her.  They said they told her to be careful as it was really hot.  However, mum is quite deaf and tried to pick it up and spilt it all over her leg which has resulted in a nasty burn.  I have had a few words with themimage and all drinks will be served in a feeder cup.  You would think common sense would tell them that as she is 94 and quite frail.

Have some new plants to put in the garden, they arrived from my favourite site, The Secret Garden.

I have also entered the world of juicing this morning.  Having bought one with some birthday money I tried Beetroot, Orange, Lime, Apple, Pink Grapefruit and Carrot. Have to say it was lovely.  So far so good, not sure how I will get on with green juices though.  Some of them contain Cabbage and Sproutimage

YvieStevie - shocking for your rmum.  Hope she recovers well.

Hazel - parsnips are very versatile.  i've done this cake and the Belgians loved it - http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/honey-parsnip-coconut-cake and this way with sausages is very good too if you use parsnips instead of swede which we don't like - http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/sausage-maple-swede-traybake and then good old roast parsnip with Sunday dinner cos they van be tweaked with honey/male syrup/parmesan/spices accordingly.

I am coughing and spluttering so much I've had to rope in OH to clear a veg bed so I can plant the onion sets.  Fed up.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
