Hello, ive had a great day off (rare - no kids or OH to please!). Went to Harlow Carr. Swathes and swathes of mecanopsis (KEF and PD you must go before they finish!), absolutely fabulous. The Harlow Carr candelabra primulas are quite a show stopper as well. Wonderful alpine displays too. Fell in love with a geranium Elizabeth Ann but they didn't have it in th explana shop - had to buy Lillies, tradescantia and errr heather ... heather because it looked great under the purple Acer so I need to recreate the look ( in hind sight it was just the colour, oops not that keen on heather normally!). Would love to share photos but it just tells me the file is too big so you'll have to take a trip yourselves! Hope you are all well and enjoying your gardens. x
I've called it a day in the garden. Only managed a small part of the new flowerbed, but although I'm only in my 30s I have the body of someone much older, so I've been sensible.
Dewdrops - lifting turf is hard work and best done a small area at a time unless you want to 'do your back in' A trim hedge always makes a garden look better
The small local farm nursery had 30% off plants today so I enjoyed some retail therapy
Dewdrop - 3 trailing fuchsia 2 begonias, tray of ageratums, tray of bedding begonias, and tray of mixed trailing as I decided to do another hanging basket.. . .£10.50 not bad
Tennis this morning, then gardening this afternoon, got two rows of Swiss chard Lucullus and one row of beetroot sown and lots of little tidying jobs done. Also OH (under instruction) moved the big pot with the Campsis radicans along the terrace a bit to give it and the fig a bit more room.Sitting in a shady corner of the terrace, behind some pots, was another toad - not as big as the last one but very handsome all the same. As I had to move the pots I put a broken piece of a large terracotta pot in the corner to replace them and provide him with a bit of privacy.
After that, the rest of the afternoon was spent on the lounger under the tree with a G&T listening to the birds and bees and the plop from the frogs in the pond ........ absolute bliss
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
What a busy day you've had Dove, followed by some nice 'R&R'
Bit at a time Dewdrops. I know how `tough it is digging out turf. It's frustrating when you want it all done quickly though!
My hedge could do with a little tidy up now too. It's grown well. Some of the primuals and polyanthus have produced little babies so I might stick them in pots as they're mainly in the bark under the little gate by the front door!
Hope the new medicine works for you obelixx. My coughs usually just develop into a cold , so it must have been a different thing altogether. Very wearing isn't it?
Been to the SM after work so we have a well stocked fridge and freezer, and dinner's on. Hope to get outside and do a couple of bits and bobs as the weather's ok.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Not got much further with the digging, but my dad came round to help me with the hedge. Nobody trusts me with hedge trimmers.
Hello all. Hope everyone is having a good day.
DD, you're in my thoughts.

Today's efforts have resulted in going from this:

Thanks Joyce. I've taken my painkillers and I'm going to cook some dinner before I can't do anything else!
Retail therapy is good, especially with a discount. What did you get?

That is good! I look forward to seeing what the baskets look like.
