    Verdun thank you.

And I for one don't think you're a stirrer.  You are just putting your views accross, which you are entitled to do.

    I got mine.

I noticed that the stay in page had a much more readable and attractive layout than the out. Why is this?

I admit that I didn't read it closely, but got the impression that it was produced by the Electoral Commission  whoever they are.

I got one of those leaflets. I figure if you can't understand the basic voting slip, and how to put a cross in, you shouldn't be voting.

    Hi folks

I've been trying to resist posting on this thread... I think I could spend too long on here!

However, there's an angle on the EU which I haven't seen aired.  It's to do with the balance between what Britain pays into the EU and what we get out of it.

When I first visited Madeira (an island which is part of Portugal politically) in 1999, it took most of a day to get from the capital in the SW, to the town in the NW tip, 30-something miles away.  Old, barefoot women carried huge bundles of firewood on their backs, up the hundreds of steps to their homes.  Younger women did their washing in communal outdoor sinks.  Health care was not readily available in the villages.

Portugal then got money from the EU, and a lot of it was spent on improving the lives of the inhabitants of Madeira.  It's now possible to drive from the capital to the NW tip, on the new roads through tunnels, in 40 mins or so.  Health care is much more equitably distributed.  Houses generally look better maintained.  We no longer see old people in distress.

Could there be a case for Britain remaining in the EU even though we put more money into the system than we get out?

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

I am a newbie on this forum, and as such have no wish to alienate myself from any other members, as I wish to stay for some time (the help and advice as been invaluable) but I do feel that to post a private message on a public forum is just bad form. I am a member of other forums, admittedly not all gardening, but I would be disconsolate if a private message of mine was repeated for all to see, regardless of its content. That’s why they are called “private messages”.image
