Steve - you'll be pleased to hear I had lovely red fruit on my Red Sentinels through till about the end of Feb. I have several differentcrab apples and it's always the last to lose it's fruit. Looks great on a sunny winter day against a clear blue sky
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
We picked it cos the reviews said it had amongst the longest lasting fruit. Good to get it confirmed! It is currently skinny and six feet tall but has loads of flowers.
1.39pm here Hosta. We had a wake up just before dawn today with really heavy rain (yee-hah) and maybe even hail, but couldn't see. Now its bright sunlight but about 12 degrees and gale force winds. It's whistling down the chimney and the greenhouse is billowing out like a hot air balloon. Hopefully the concrete which was poured around the corner pins will hold.
5am and the blackbirds are singling their little hearts out.
No doubt as soon as it's light they'll have their hands full dealing with the " explosion of slugs" ( I haven't seen a single one in the garden so far)
When and if the wind drops, we'll go for a drive out the back and check to see if any Eucalyts have dropped over our fences. If so, Hubby will need to get his chain sawing gear and spend the next hour removing the tree or branches and maybe repair the fence. Of course I'll be helping with removal of branches and twisting wires with my fencing pliers. (As usual).
I'm having trouble adjusting to the seasonal changes as well, Hosta. We had extremely hot temps in summer and now we look as though we are going to have a rotten Autumn, goodness know what winter will be like!

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Dove, if you're still awake, the little gerbils look very cute. I don't know anything about them. Are they babies or fully grown? They seem small.
Morning all.
Wide awake at stupid o'clock again.

Hopefully you'll be asleep again by now.
04.54 here Pat.
Funny the way you're dropping into winter as we're clinging to the hope that summer will eventually arrive this year.
It's been a long slow spring. Last April we had a 31C here, ( very hot for April ) this year I'm not sure we've had 21C but lots of chilly wind.
Good luck with the greenhouse.

we're south west which is generally milder but wetter over the winter than the south east.
I know some posters have have frost damage to early buds in SE but we've had no damage here.
Frost a couple of nights ago did no harm to 6" tall hosta foliage, even though there was ice on the bird baths.
