    Evening all,

Hope you feel better soon Panda, hate the dentist.

Been busy at Secondborn's house today, trying to do some decorating but it was tricky as lots of floorboards still up.  Can't see how she can possibly be in before the baby arrives as still so much to do.  Tomorrow the boiler should be commisioned so at least she will have hot water and heating.  Going again tomorrow, if I can move after todays efforts.

Hi from Kingswinford in the West Midlands

Yviestevie know just what you mean I thought it was never going to end floors up builders everywhere for nine months chaos then suddenly one day I turned up and all the boards were down floors swept and a week later all over.

Clari, I agree with GWRS, a badge from each unit would be a great idea.... and you could offer them one too that they could buy for their sleepover, unless the museum already does one?  We Guiders love a badge, and I think Scouters are the same!

Decided to pop out to bingo tonight to distract myself.... it worked, but I didn't win.

Am steering away from crispy foods - had soup for tea image

I'm trying to wake up and have just read back 4 pages to make sure I had seen everyone's posts before writing myself. Wonky, I don't know how you remembered it all. I can only say my best wishes to all with cold, flu, wisdom teeth, gardening projects and house renovations etc.

All 5 of us who went to the Russian restaurant last night were both happy with some aspects and disappointed with others. To start with, we didn't know that Thursday nights the local music school has their sort of "amateur hour" and what with their loud sound system in a small room and my German friends loudly trying to have a birthday evening and shouting to each other, I felt torn between listening to some quite good musical endeavours and trying to join the lively conversation. image

Regarding the food, it was OK but we all felt it was a bit uninspired. There was a salmon dish, two Italian pastas, lamb chops, German sausages with sourcrout,  and the one that most of us decided on was "Eastern block goulash". Described as slow cooked beef with mashed potatoes.  The goulash was ok but the potatoes didn't have any butter or milk - just mashed boiled potatoes. Some of us ordered Apple cake with ice cream, and I didn't like the taste of almond essence poured all over it. It was a bit heavy handed.

The trouble is that we are all more educated with our home cooking nowadays, so we expect something a bit more sophisticated when we go out. The prices were rather high - between $25-30 for the main course and when a sweet course was added, it came to an average of about $40  per head.  I think rather than a repeat visit next week with birthday boy's other daughter, we will be trying the RSL club which has a good reputation.

Id better finish off here. Catch you all when you wake up in the morning.image

Good morning all image G'day Pat image  That menu didn't sound very authentically Russian did it?  More 'Soviet'. image

It's only 3.8C so far this morning, but it's dry and the light cloud is thinning in the west - 'my' pair of goldfinches are already on the feeder outside the sitting room window and I think we're going to have a fairly good day.  I shall be travelling south to visit Ma.
