I would ask if there is a half plot available as when you have a plot you can seem to get first pick, well seems like that on the site I am on
Some plots on the site are smaller than half
Went to the plot today done some more digging for an hour and a bit, spotted on way past other plot lots of birds male and female black bird, robin and a song thrush
Going to the Hampshire potato day on Saturday to get some potatoes for garden and other bits
Hi all, just been reading all the threads, nice to see some new names come up.
Went up to my plot on Wednesday (day off) very cold and icy, to drop off more horse poo so whole plot is covered in it now! Garlic and onions planted in November are coming on, but the winter cabbages look a bit sorry for themselves, will leave them be and no doubt they will pick up in the spring.
Pack Choi are doing well and still have loads of curly Kale.
Rosemummy, I only have a half plot (nearly all of our site is small plots) Its amazing what you can produce in a small area so its worth downsizing. Good luck!
thanks for all replies, half plots are very hard to come by at our site, I have asked a few people if anyone would share but not had any luck, it would be loely to get someone to clear it for us, but then I think every time we wanted hedges trimming ( onall sides and big plot) we'd need help again and it just seems we'd be spending a lot of money, the other reason I'd like a half plot is the ones at our site are more open, ours is very private which seems lovely but I think would feel lonely if I went on my own, I like a chat!
GardenGirl - chick pea sounds a good idea to try. I tried a small amount of barlotti (not sure if that is the correct spelling) beans last year for the first time donated from one of the forum members. They were a great success so I saved lots of seed and will be growing a larger amount this year.
Lots happening at the moment. Managed to get a load of old concrete paving slabs from a colleague to I laid a base for a shed. No shed yet, hopefully next weekend.
Dug another part of the plot, about 4m by 2m, took the whole day picking all of the couch grass rhizomes out. It was looking good this evening, but I know I just won a battle against the couch grass and not the war.
Got a van and 100 rubble sacks for tomorrow. Going to pick up as much manure as I can. Found somebody on preloved who has loads of 5 year old manure going for free. Going to be a long day I think. Another friend has loads more pavers which I will collect tomorrow - sure I will be able to use them for something or other.
Bit by bit, it´s coming along. A few of the daffs and narcissus I planted between my fruit trees are starting to poke through the ground. Looking forward to seeing something growing after all the digging.
Had a look at some water butts online. Are they really that expensive? All I need is a barrel, nothing fancy.
