Gosh, that does sound they haven't thought this through. I went to the flower show at RHS Hyde Hall today, and, in a complete contrast, the organisation was tip-top. I got four different echinaceas, a verbena bonariensis and an achillea Summerwine. I think I'll keep them in pots till late spring, though, I'm worried that they'd get eaten by slugs either now or in early spring if I planted them out now as relatively small plants.
Zoomer , 1 water butt already empty and nice weather forecast to continue , infact sitting outside with coffee ( have got a fleece on ) . Sorry to hear about blight , had it once but potatoes where OK , hope yours are too
Hello , shallots drying at home in recovered plastic g/h and onions drying in old shed we inherited at allotment , just having breakfast then going up to plot
Spent the afternoon on the plot. It was a nice afternoon, cloudy and not to hot.
Pruned fruit bushes and mulched with leaf mould. Covered a bed with plastic to stop weeds from growing and cut back runners on one of the strawberry beds. Even managed a tip run.
Sunflowers and Dahlia's took a beating from wind earlier in the week, a few had snapped. I don't have anything strong enough to stake the sunflowers with as they are so tall.
Sounds like you're all reaping the fruits (and veg) of your efforts!
Zoomer, I bought tree stakes for my sunflowers and they've done the trick. My sunflowers are only about 6 ft tall, but they are the branching types, so they would've keeled over had I not staked them properly.
It's been fairly dry here as well, but now I've bought a hose I don't mind watering so much. I still had to use the watering can this weekend, though, because I was feeding.
I had to take out all the outdoor tomatoes because of blight. Now I've got about 2 kg of green tomatoes on my windowsill, I hope at least some of them will ripen.
I cleared a part of one of the beds I took over this summer from a lady who was giving up her plot and sowed some mustard as a green manure.
