Oh, how that takes me back, my late parents always had London Pride in their front garden, I havent seen it for years,  can you still buy it,wonder if its related to Tiarellas?  Took dogs on beach at 8, then to Homebase, AND Hubby bought me a Pennisetum, Cherry Sparkler, a Honeysuckle for the "new" woodlandy bit, AND I picked up a climbing hardy Fuschia, an didnt get told to put it back! It was in the sale £5.Got more woodchips, hes planted it all apart from the grass, I said lets get one later, because the bed needs extending, he said no lets get it now!  I watered at 6.30, We had fish n chips on the beach at 9 last night, when we got back he picked up my seedling modules, there were HUGE slugs and snails on them, (I had put them in the ground by the shed, in the shade) I mentioned they never seem to climb on the new wood potting bench, he called me out, there was a massive mollusc on the top sitting on the seceuters, now that is plain suicidal as far as I am concerned.  This morning, he called me again, there was a whopper on a hanging basket, what it climbed a brick wall, along a chain!!! I recon they parachute in!!!!

NannyB, I've had London Pride for over forty years and also break off pieces to fill gaps.

Pots have had copious watering as sun and wind have been drying them out  Lots of dead-heading still to be done..

I've told a story a couple of times on here about my cousin's garden when I was little. She had London pride and I was fascinated by it. Now we're all growed up (actually at least one of us is quite old image) and a couple of years ago she gave me a big clump of her London Pride. Every time I look at it I think of her.

I must mooch over and see if I can scrounge some of her rhubarb. It's the best I've ever tasted.

Today's job was the completion of one of yesterday's. Poking the moss/liverwort/mank out from between the paviours. I'll have buns of steel! (and a hip replacement!!!).

  • Ripped most of the creeping cr*p out the shade border today, something I call celandine but might not be, something like a non-sticky sticky weed, a few lengths of hedge woundwort and a bale of couch grass. Going to have to keep on top of that twisty borderimage

Also ripped out some white scabious, I'd moved them to one of the best spots in the garden yet they are still mean flowerers.

Sorted out my seed tin looking for Autumn direct sow types, think they do much better than the spring sows. Will put the reject seeds on the swap thread in due course.image

Haven't had much time for gardening this week as busy with work and house renovations but have done some tidying/dead-heading today - hoping for a few more buds before summer is out.

Agree that nights very much drawing in - and I think some of my Acers are starting to change colour already! Apples are starting to drop too.

What are you having done to the house Aunty?  Dont think it would be celendines now, we have loads because our garden gets damp in the winter/spring.I pull them out from around the fruit trees dont bother with the lawn ones, they flower and spring up (overnight!!) early in spring, then die down and dissapear. Had a lie in till 6.45, just pottered around the plot, oh killed a slug sitting on patio step eating one dispatched (and NOT removed) by Hubby yesterday.

Just managed half hour potter in garden and now the rain has arrived! Trying to tidy scruffy bits from plants that are going over etc. Time for brunch before work...

We are renovating kitchen and breakfast room - laid a new floor last weekend (oh my knees!) - it's great having a DIY-loving partner...but it's hard work being the apprentice!

Brushed my self to a standstill yesterday. Now there's a wee breeze and the trees are dropping leaves on my clean bits. Sake!!!

I went out with a rake later last night and attacked the wilderness left by last week's brushcutting. It's soaking wet underneath. I don't think it'll ever dry out at this rate. All I can do is stop the brambles and cut a wee bit more each time. One weed at a time eh?

Easy day planned for today. Maybe a bit of deadheading and tidying.

Yuk!  after my 70+ slugs yesterday.  I have just managed over 20 of them, lots of them very small ones which are  harder to pick up.  Yesterdays haul has helped. When I go away on Saturday I doubt if my hubby will engage in slug picking.  I will be inundated again by the time I get back.
