Picked up a white Buddleia and a deep ruby red clematis from Morrisons for less than £2 each and a few trailing lobelia for my baskets. Very tired from work and a poor nights sleep so I may just wait till the weeked to plant as I'll have a rare Saturday off and the forecast is very good
Back indoors with a hot cup of tea after a busy afternoon (it's quite nippy in the shade)
Cleared space on the shelves in the grow house for the toughest stuff I've been keeping in the conservatory, sweet peas, cosmos etc have been shifted out there. Put a sheet of bubble wrap on the wall and they'll get a fleece for a few nights.
That meant extra space inside so lots of pricking out and potting on, hope to be able to start moving them out next week if the temps keep rising.
I've got dirt under my fingernails today after a couple of weeks of no gardening due to the bad weather.
Hope you are better soon Archiepem. Rotten luck having man flu in May.
I realised when I'd been weeding the upper and lower trellis beds that there are 2 glaring holes that desperately needed climbing roses. Especially as one of the very old woody Mme Alfred Carrière didn't survive the hard pruning and the deer damage. So after lunch went to a small nursery and bought 2 roses. They didn't have any that were on their website that I'd chosen, so came back with Pink Cloud (bred in the USA) and Belle Epoque. Neither is familiar to me. English websites show Belle Epoque as yellow bronze and French websites show it as pink flushed with bronze.
I want a clematis Niobe for where the Mme Alfred was. Can't find one. Gardening club have told me of 2 places where I might find one, but an hour's drive away.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Just came in for a cuppa, been out in the garden all day potting on Zinnia, Asters, Rudbeckia ,Trailing Petunias ,Delphiniums and Cosmos. Also planted some bee friendly plants in my bee garden, Leucanthemum, Linaria, Centaurea and Gaillardia. Planted in some low growing plants too in the other part of my garden, Dianthus, Silene Saxifraga, and Phlox. So I think I deserve a cuppa and a lovely Toffee yumyum Hope you feel better soon Archiepem, its horrible when you have a sore throat
Oh dear - accidentally stumbled upon a local nursery I hadn't been to before (as in, made a special trip, of course). Lots of stuff I haven't seen at other nurseries and garden centres, although that's not that impressive a claim, as I know about five plant names
Came away with Persicaria affinis 'superba', geum 'bell bank', thalictrum 'splendide'. Feeling very organised (and refusing to look at bank balance)...
