Went to the farm garden this morning to do a bit of dead heading and weeding. After lunch, just about finished cutting the grass before the rain and hail came.
A jolly pleasant day - by far the nicest this week. Not incredibley warm, still needed 2-3 layers depending what I was up to.
Found a consignment of plants when I got home yesterday, saved the unpacking until today for more fun They were all nice-to-have's and unplanned purchases so I thought I'd have trouble finding places for them, however they have melted away into the garden, no drama.
Had some early morning inspiration when I realised I'd not planned the failed white border well enough...that created space for a shrub I have my eye on, also some more foxgloves I had in pots and another of Lyn's aconitum.
Moved a giant clump of daffs as I'd moved my bench directly over them. They came with the house but are early and fun and worth saving. Split them into several smaller clumps as the bulbs were climbing on top of each other. Look a bit of a mess now replanted but things I plant in the green always do
Moved a few tufts of grass out the beds and into my lawn mud as it'll be summer before the seed germinates.
Rescued a small white out the conserv, watched it fly away in case something swooped down and ate it. It's happened before
Went to the village plant sale - bought a big delphinium and a rambling rose for ??5 each - very happy! Did a bit of border clearing and weeding too. Tomorrow I am digging out something messy and replacing with one of my potted plants which need a forever home...
"Rescued a small white out the conserv, watched it fly away in case something swooped down and ate it. It's happened before" You don't grow brassicas then?
More firefighting in OH's garden. Bundled up loads more twiggy stuff to be taken away. Dug out the most tenacious laurel bush I've ever had the misfortune to encounter: had to use a Spanish windlass to winch it over. Cut the "lawn"!
Hi Victoria, of course! I was mostly shopping for a new white border and bought, a few of each of these, amongst other things:
Veronicastrum
Actaea
Pulmonaria
Foxgloves
Epimediium
I also bought some lily of the valley and woodruffe for another area. Other things too I'm sure, I just can't remember the full excitement of my buying spree
Nice plants there. I think I saw your white border on one of the threads - didn't make the connection. I'd be interested to see how you get on...
I tried a white border but I'm afraid I found it too difficult and gave up I had a bad combo of plants and too many sun-lovers in the shade.
I've ordered from Dorset a few times and have ordered actaeas and pulmonarias from them too. They are one of my favourite online nurseries so it's nice to see how others rate them
I'll let you know how it goes Victoria! I'm very much a novice, so just feeling my way, really.
I found the service from Dorset really good. Their website is a bit confusing and home made, but as long as you know what you want, that's not a problem. They have so much info on there about each plant, it's a great help to someone like me
I went to our village plant sale yesterday, so many plants for sale but only recognised a fraction of the names - I didn't want to look stupid and ask, so just came away with a couple of things I knew the names of!

All potted up and watered in.
They'll go into the back garden borders
I love free plants!
There's at least 25 more in the lawn.

I don't grow brassicas, no Steve
I presume people net their veg or something.
Keenbutgreen, can I be nosy and ask what you bought from Dorset recently? I think it was you but looking back I can't see it on this thread...
Rained all day.
