tootles I know, where does it go?! my husband looks at me as if I'm mad when I say 'I need some more compost' I have very very small front and back gardens but I seem to get through it, today had 2& ahalf hours gardening!without interruption! Planted guernsey cream clematis by obelisk to share with new dawn rose, planted out 5 allium chrisophii&5 sir winston chuchill daffs& 1 white dicentra ( all bought from local charity farm yesterday, planted 15 free lily bulbs my daughter wanted when she saw them in a magazine ( couldn't get her to plant them, she was having too much fun dressing up in her swimsuit inside) only thing I haven't done is sort strawberres out from last 2 years, hoping to just repot new plants made from runners. we've had mad weather too, lovely warm sun then heavy hail
Garden is sodden. Have spent most of the afternoon in the GH. Shuffling plants, potting on others, sowing runner beans, courgettes, cucumbers, more petunias (too late?), ditto Didiscus, French marigolds, Hesperis, Cerinthe. GH is full.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Busy-Lizzie, I think greenhouse shuffling should be an official sport! I seem to spend hours doing it but it's amazing how much more can be nudged in with a bit of tinkering isn't it?!
your choice of plants sounds lovely rosemummy. Great combinations.
Im going to nip over to my inlaws later as they are going out. ive been helping them with their garden so will do some more as a surprise for when they return.
Inspected for frost damage earlier - was below freezing from midnight and went down to -2C at 7am before rising again. Layer of ice on birdbath removed. A few magnolia flowers succumbed and the previously nice straight tulips just about to open looking decidedly wonky! Tomatoes and chillies on the heated bench OK though.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Posts
Ammo majus x2 (I love umbels)
Tellima grandiflora x1 (to compliment the clump I have in the other border)
Polemomium blue something x3
1.50 each and decent sizes.
Should all be well received by the bees etc and look good too.
Bought 8 bags of compost this morning. Where does it go?! I seem to buy so much of the stuff every year!
Spent the rest of the day in the greenhouse potting on and sowing more seeds.
Had a few mad episodes of rain and hail followed by bright sunshine. Random weather.

Decided this year's tulips are annuals so hoiked some out. They looked a lot better on the packet. Will probably stick to the old varieties next year.
Can now identify alliums and have been able to pull out bluebells.
