Keep cosy today Pat. Hope you're not  in for too much snow soon.

Lovely pic of the heron GD. They sometimes look like statues don't they?  They just stand there, completely immobile. They can be a real nuisance if you have fish and the pond is a bit shallow. They're wading birds so, as long as they can't get into the deeper areas, the fish can hide!  image

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Hi Fairy. The cloud dissipated to nothing, but the wind from the south is VERY cold. We're staying  in now (5pm).

  • Thanks Fairygirl, and yes they do seem to be a nuisance to pond owners hence the amount of metal/plastic imitation herons you see in gardens.  We have herons at most of the nature reserves here and also often seen on the beach.  There are egrets too - easy to spot with their white plumage. Sleet in August Pat - where were you driving?

GD we were driving from town to our home. We live in the Snowy Mountain region of NSW. That shot was about 50metres from our gate. image

  • What is your temperature range Pat - is it extreme ?  Sorry to show such ignorance, but like most people we imagine NSW as being hot with little change in the seasons.

Just woken up GD, 9.15am here on Friday. This winter we've had minus 9 c and in summer we reach 35c or so.  It varies to even lower some winters and high 30s in summer. Our place at about 850 m above sea level.image

This photo was taken today of the snow fields around Mt Kosciusko. I'm sure the ski lodge owners are clapping their hands.

  • Pat, that blue, blue sky is so deceiving, you would imagine it to be a sunny summer day, but so cold in your winter - brrr. I remember we reached the dizzy lows of  - 7 here once with some of our house pipes bursting. Our daughters loved it, we had so much snow and ice and the schools were closed.

Minus 7 seems pretty cold for Guernsey, GD... we had minus 18 in Northumberland while I was living there, and we too had no water for several days.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Lovely pic Pat. I had to turn it round to get a proper view of it  image

Do you get a good ski season there? The Scottish season can be hit and miss. Our weather changes so many times a day in winter on the hills, so visibility is often a problem. Keeping roads open is the other problem!
