Canada aym. Big country - big weather. image

We'll have some on the hills here soon too. Usually have some by the end of this month if not before.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Fairygirl,

    "Canada... Big country-big weather."

That's great, I love it! Would it be alright if I use it?  I could use it often, in quotation marks of course.

    aym,

Have another nap and the weather will change here. That's life in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

    Storm on Johnny!

It gets compared with Scotland quite a bit, but we don't have the extremes that you get there. Never as hot in summer, never quite so cold in winter. Canada 'light' you could say  image

I remember flying over The Rockies and being extremely impressed. My aunt loved BC. She never had any desire to come back to Britain. I'm glad I had the chance to visit and see a little bit of her home.   image

Celebrated my retirement with a trip to Canada. . . . . loved it and the Canadian people.image

Vancouver, Banff, Lake Louise, two days by train through the Rockies.   Vancouver Island and the wonderful Butchart Gardens. . . . . a riot of colour in mid October.

  • BC is a beautiful province. When I was young it always amazed me how in the middle of winter I could enjoy the green grass and flowers of Victoria and two days later, having arrived home, I would be driving into the farm with the snow piled into the ditches towering above the roof of my truck.

When I was 10yrs old, dad took us to S Ireland and the UK at the end of March beginning of April, we got as far north as Edinburgh but we didn't encounter snow until we were driving In Wales. Arrived back at Calgary to a terrible snow storm. But it's only a few hours flight to the warmth of Florida or a few more to Hawaii. This is sometimes a needed treat when the winters are really rough. I'm a person that enjoys to walk the paths along the creek and river in a -20 freeze. I just dress myself in layers and I'm good to go.

You'd have needed to go a little further north here for the snow in March/April, Johnny. Don't normally get much at that time of year unless you're above about 800 feet.

It's usually a bit hit and miss through the Central belt, although in 2010, the whole Central belt ground to a halt when a huge amount of snow arrived out of the blue. Complete chaos!

We had a trip to Whistler while we were in Canada, for a bit of ski-ing. I don't think I've skied since - I walk up the hills instead  image

Think we went to Butchart as well Joyce - April though. It was a long time ago...

  • Hello Joyce,

I'm glad you enjoyed your travels in Western Canada. So you have been to Banff, the town of my birth. I enjoy telling people that I was born at the YWCA. They look at me like I had just told them I was born on the back seat of a greyhound bus. The Banff YWCA hostel was once the Mineral Springs Hospital.

Daughter skied at Whistler a few times so we went for a day. . . . . . had lunch and walked out without paying image  Luckily another person on the trip paid up and we reimbursed them.
