Do you live near Schiehallion, Fairygirl? We were pretty lucky with the weather that week- in fact I don't think I've had any bad weather when being on holiday in Scotland yet! It turned out that when we climbed it my wife was pregnant, although we didn't know at the time. I left her to enjoy the view about half way up as she was feeling it a bit, ran up to the top and took some photos (that panoramic is actually a stitch of about 12 photo's).
Hi Bob - Rannoch can look fabulous at this time of year when there are lots of pockets of fog sitting on it. That happens at any time of year actually!
I'm south of Glasgow, so Schiehallion ( Hill of the Fairies ) is a good couple of hours away - a bit more really. I hillwalk, so I often travel over a hundred miles at the weekend to do them. I've done most of the biggest ones (Munros) closer to home now, apart from about 8 or 10, so it's getting trickier to do new ones as they're a bit far to do in one day now unfortunately. I bore everyone senseless on this thread each week with my hill photos
I was up doing some smaller hills there recently and got a few of Schiehallion. The cloud lifted from the summit later in the day
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I agree Pat E - Fairy certainly knows how to capture the magic of the scenery with her photos and I love them too. However I hope you don't mind me crashing in with a couple of views from one of the tiny islands off Guernsey. No traffic apart from a few quad bikes - mainly the sound of the sea and birds is all that can be heard. There is one hotel, one tiny church a pub/restaurant and a school with 6 pupils up to the age of 11.
GD2, your place sounds quite advanced coated to our village. They closed our primary school this year. Now we only have 2 churches , a village hall, and a sports oval which I presume won't get used now that the school has closed. We can't get mobile phone coverage in our valley either. No shops, no hotels, nothing. We get the sound of bird song though.
I do often wish I lived on this tiny island - but most of the houses are given over to the staff that run the island for the tourists - there used to be a fully working farm but that has gone by the wayside now. However in the winter it is fairly bleak when the sea is too rough to take supplies to the island - no different I presume than some of the islands off Scotland although much warmer down here. I feel for you Pat - our island is small but very densely built up in some areas so there is always something going on and we do have a local daily newspaper. Which is your nearest large town - and can you drive to it?

Hooded Vulture in flight:
Loch Rannoch on a still day

Nine months later this blonde thing came out!
Oh Bob your daughter isn't a 'thing' !!
Super pics of Loch Rannoch and hooded vulture.
It's usually a bit grey any time I've been to Loch Rannoch.
Not sure how this will look but here goes (Last one I'm posting, I'm clogging up the post!)

Fairy, there's no way that your photos are boring. Fabulous! Keep 'em coming please.

Instead of "coated", try "compared"
