Of course he should be getting Attendance Allowance!  My aged Ps had it for years while they were still at home and carers were coming in during the day - they still got it in the Lovely Home - it helps them pay for their care there!

There's a possibility that you're also entitled to Carer's Allowance.

Hubby's attendance allowance is used to pay for occasional help in the garden and house. As he has Altzheimers, we only the single person's Council Tax.

You will need to apply pressure Lyn as your health will suffer.

Lyn I think you are definitely entitled to carers allowance.

My friend gets it for her mum and she's no where near as bad as your dad. She's able to go out with my friend and walk round the a few shops.

Hope you get all the help you deserve Lyn, big hugs xx

I don't know that the EU has much to do with it RB. French care is pretty good. The French pay more for health and social security than the English do so they get a good service. The poor get it free and the better off pay more. Why can't the British better off pay more?

RB - I wasn't sure whether Lyn was of pension age - I have met her image

Don't think this has anything to do with the EU  - someone - GP? -  hasn't given Lyn the information she needs.  If it wasn't for lots of Polish and Portuguese staff many of our very good care homes would be closing down as many English people don't want that sort of work. image

Don't get me wrong, folks, I am aware of what SHOULD be, but that's not the same thing.

anyway, I have sorted out private care, so I liaise with the company direct, I am getting the attendance allowance forms sent to me, (although dad has to do it, I don't get it) within 24 hours, it won't cover the cost of the care though.

I can still only have her for half an hour per day, but, I can, as I am dealing direct, call them at anytime I need the care or help and if someone is available they will come out. In theory!

Not perfect, but I don't have to thank NHS for anything.

What I find so annoying and of course, several people are in the same boat, but my dad has worked from the age of 14, was skipper of a landing craft in the DDay landings, went back to Chatham Docks, was told he looked a bit shot about (he was 19) and could take the rest of the weekend off as he lived close, back Monday and don't be late, not all the counselling and 'how do you feeeeel' in those days.

People can come here and get everything they want for nothing, I need a couple of of hours and get sod all.

I am not complaining in the least about looking after him, not for one minute, it just doesn't seem fair.

Without getting into a political debate, that's the last thing I want right now, but my OH has said all along, this should all be privatised, the poor would still get benefits to pay for care, so it wouldn't be like it was before the war, but every one of these bodies would have to pull their socks up. You see, I am paying for care, it get it straight away. Private health care should be encouraged, lots of other countries work well with that.

On a lighter note, very flattered Dove. I can give you a good few years.

I agree with what you said, wholeheartedly about our migrant workers, I was told by someone in authority, this morning, that our younger people don't want the sh*t jobs, we do rely on the others, and at the moment I don't care where she comes from, as long as she is willing to help.

You see, that's the problem - your father doesn't need what is considered as nursing care - he's seen as needing social care - it's funded differently.

He may reach the stage where he is also entitled to what is called Continuing Care ... that is funded by the NHS and will be in addition to the Attendance Allowance - talk to your GP or Practice Nurse about that - you can have a look at this which will explain more about who is eligible. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/Pages/nhs-continuing-care.aspx#eligibility

    Carer's allowance...Lyn does not qualify.

AA forms are pigs to fill in you need to know the current buzz words & phrases  image The payment is made to the applicant..Lyn's dad..he doesn't have to complete the form but has to sign it and they can if they desire check with your G.P before making a decision image From what Lyn has said she won't still have her dear Dad before the form is processed.

Lyn I send you my admiration & love xx
