Fantastic news, DD!  So very, very pleased for you.  All fingers, toes and paws crossed that it works out as a forever home.

  • DD glad to hear shadow going to be ok. I've had two labs Duke and Blaze best dogs and best friends. Well done to you and all your other helpers.

    Hi DD

Just back after some time away & I have been so moved by this story - partly because it is so heartbreaking to be permanently separated from a beloved pet but also because of the wonderful response from Forum members and all the other people who have rallied round with offers of help. In a world where the news is full of terrible, sad, irresolvable stories it really lifts the spirit to hear of such goodness and kindness.

It sounds as though you have several plans and contingencies on the go - so I hope it all works out for you & Shadow (the last plan definitely sounds like the perfect solution). If you ever get to the final default of needing to bring him to the UK, I'm sure I could do a transport leg somewhere between the SE and the Midlands - but everything crossed you won't have to worry about all that hassle.

I really admire your tenacity and energy in dealing with this horrible problem - well done you image

  • Hello Annmarie, the forum folks are amazing aren't they! image

I saw the foster man this morning, Shadow is ok, he didn't eat any supper but has eaten his breakfast this morning, slept quietly until 3am and then went and nudged the man in his bed to go out for a wee - oops, sorry about that I said. The man was fine and completely understood that Shadow was probabaly a bit confused and disorientated.

He says what a great dog he is, so friendly, impressed by his obedience - he won't go in their kitchen already because they have told him not to and he is great with the kids, one is only 3 years old and he has been as gentle as a lamb with her.

We are hoping he might keep him but it is a lot to ask, he already has a really big bouncy dog, clumsy gentle giant but big all the same. I am also a bit worried it might be too close, what if Shadow tries to find his way home.

Anyway, we will see, have a lady coming to see him on Sunday, she sounds perfect but I am worried about her 3 legged cat that dashes about.

This morning I have been breaking down in tears every half an hour, I am so stupid. The house is so quiet, no-one to meet me as I came downstairs, vaccuming I was crying over dog hairs going up the cylinder for the last time, hung the washing out and found one of his balls, realised I don't have to put the child lock on the bin, ate my sandwich without big brown eyes looking up at me longingly and then moved the cat's food bowl back to where it used to be pre-Shadow (who scoffed it the moment your back was turned) and so it had to put up high.

Even the cat has been wandering around looking for him, but to say he is missing him too is probably a stretch too far. I have got it bad haven't I?  I am trying to be positive and just think how much worse it could have been had he been put to sleep. We will find him a good home, he will have a good life and I suppose I will have a dog hair free house again. image image
