    ...Busy-Lizzie,

when I live near Eastbourne I had the exact same problem as you getting to Wisley... over 3 hours caught in traffic... I think we ended up going around Dorking or somewhere... down country roads... it's a shocking place to get to at times like that...

Groombridge Place takes me back too... they used to have Birds of Prey displays there which was fun to watch...

...I don't know if you've ever watched the 2005 Pride and Prejudice film version with Keira Knightley/Matthew Macfadyen... I quite liked this one actually... part of it was filmed there...

They still have the birds of prey. The same chap used to do them at Chilham Castle over 30 years ago. We took the children there when they were small.

I saw that P & P, loved it, also love the Colin F. one.

I've been trying for over 12 months to get friends to visit gardens with me but no takers.

Gardenings one of those things, you either like it or you don't and most of my friends don't. They'd would rather spend a weekend away doing other stuff. We did go and see a botanic garden in Durham last year but it was on the way home and me thought...to keep Zoomer happyimage. I tried to link in the Harrogate show with a weekend in york but was found out and we went somewhere else.

So tonight, bit the bullet and booked a two day trip to visit Kew and to see a guy's garden in Windsor, called Seville. It's not till the end of September and the GH will be closed at Kew but watched David Bellamy's programme about Kew and it was really good. Hope I'm not disappointed.

You won't be disappointed zoomer. Kew is amazing. Been several times but would happily go back again.

Oh what a shame. How can people not like visiting gardens? It's not the same as actually asking them to do gardening.

I think this thread is great. I loved the RHS gardens at Wisley - truly spectacular & Sissinghurst, near where I used to live, is lovely especially for me the White Garden.

This 'garden' display is well worth a visit if you're visiting the Charente Maritime department of SW France. It's called Jardins du Monde (Gardens of the World) & that's exactly what's displayed as you stroll from one 'country' to another. There's also a tropical house as well as a wonderful bonsai room. It looks like they've added more for children since I last visited but it doesn't matter what time of year it is as there's always something lovely to see. Sorry the links is in French but if you access 'Visite Virtuelle' it'll give you an overview of the gardens.

Another unmissable garden if you're visiting France is the Palace of Versailles. Be prepared to queue, even if you buy tickets in advance you still have to go through the security checks. The whole place is truly stunning - wear VERY comfy shoes!

I've visited a couple of gardens in the South of France whilst on holiday.

Can't recall the name of either but one was a cactus garden. We drove past several times, it had a huge wooden billboard outside of a Mexican.

The other had a huge golden statue of a lady laying down in it and there was an outdoor theatre, the flowers were stunning. The garden had been dug out of a quarry.

Could the second one be Le Jardin de Saint Adrien in Langedoc-Roussillon?
