Two minutes in and they're already on about celebs. It seems like a slight at the provenance of the show, a suggestion that it needs their endorsement.
Why do the RHS let celebrities in on the first day? Why not botanic garden curators, head gardeners or some other arbitrary group? If it's to attract young people into horticulture, push the boundaries of horticulture why not just let horticultural trainees in, and actually value young people who have made the decision to enter the industry?
Why do the RHS let celebrities in on the first day? ........
It's like the Private View of an art exhibition - the exhibitors will be able to invite a number of people, and of course they will invite past and potential patrons - it's a chance to showcase their work. It costs a lot of money to put on a stand or make a garden - and it's all a marketing exercise - taking part has to benefit their business or there's no point in taking part.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I wondered if there would be a thread about Chelsea. I'm just recovering from my Garden Open Day on Sunday and doing my tax return today!
Like Hosta at the beginning of this thread, I would like to see more of the show gardens. They always miss some out. I don't want to see celebrities and I would rather see fewer bits that aren't the actual flower show.
I went to Malvern last Friday and they showed so little of it on GW, not even my favourite gardens, except the Spanish one.
I liked these two in Malvern.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Pfft, they never showed the Dark Matter, (Howard Miller Design for the National Schools’ Observatory) properly. It's incredible that the presenter(s) didn't get it Episode 1.

My money for the best in show is the Chatsworth garden by Dan Pearson.
