Watched the first prog yesterday, that woman waffled on and on without saying anything, how she got the job well!
As others have said so far too little showing the flowers and plants, maybe when Carol gets her chance we will be we will be titillated, but please camera men, linger slightly longer over the flowers and plants and give us some names to note down!
As for the Chatsworth plot just a jumble of rocks, how the judges even considered it is beyond me, and to give it best in show, they have to be joking!
And BBC Chelsea is supposed to be about plants, flowers and trees etc, not presenters trying to be smart and funny, well it just doesn't work give us the plants!
I agree with punkdoc about Dan Pearson. In the past, (not Chelsea, but other articles about his work) for my taste, Dan has used too many grasses. I prefer flowers. But the Chatsworth garden is brilliantly done and if you had seen the programme which featured Chatsworth you would realise what he was doing.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Fun day yesterday.. Bit of an early start to meet the Northern Belle at Victoria but what an absolute luxurious way of travelling - and the food (divine). The carriages are immaculate and it was like riding the whole way in the the most comfortable armchair in the world. Some nice touches were having a bag of goodies at the table including your souvenir programme - lunch reservation tkts and some sponsor items (though too much L'Occitane being sprayed early in the morning is enough to make anyone sneeze)
We didn't go to Chelsea last year but this show seemed better than what I saw from the TV coverage and was certainly better than 2013. Dan Pearson's probably is deservedly best in show. Need to catch up on the TV coverage but the scale and beauty of Chatwsworth is flabbergasting. The corner plot really does need someone to take hold and make his mark but he has done it with such beauty its hard to believe you are not staring at a bit of the Yorkshire moors.
I have a few hundred photos to edit through so will probably do another post in a cpl of days but my absolute hits and misses were. "A Perfumers Garden" (and not biased with the freebies) - its beautifull - just perfect a deserved Gold. The Healthy Cities Garden - of the more "semi formal" to "formal" planted gardens this one really works though I have to say at the same time I really didn't like the telegraph garden or the Brewin Dolphin - in fact I felt they were dishing out too many golds and it felt hard to understand why some had even reached gold.
Show gardens I really didn't like (apologies for not remembering the proper names)- Viking Cruises which was pretty poor -I'm guessing they paid a lot of money to be there and didn't think beyond that - the concept was like a pre teen had designed it. Canada Bank - Felt very empty and lacking in any scale.
None of the Fresh Gardens really seemed that interesting and I hate how this area is just a sort of thoroughfare so I probably didn't really give them much attention..
Artisan gardens were a bit of a mixed bunch but this area was far to crowded when we got there "Trug Makers" had a lovely feel about it though I did feel it reminded me of that Chelsea TV show where less is more when it came to detailing was an issue and more had won.
Speaking of which the winners garden from that show seemed to have gone the opposite way. It looked like the plot was either too big or they had forgotton to order enough plants . Very empty and very boring but weirdly with the largest crowds!
Couple of new Roses pre ordered for the barn along with some Irises. Lunch was excellent and a bit of a "semi" celeb fest. Dinner on the train was superb (as was the wine )
Coffee now needed - whilst I do a TV Chelsea catchup.

What a priceless response.
Good point Obelixx!
I liked Chris Beardshaw's planting, but then I like Chris Beardshaw
Bizzie B- love your story. Made me chuckle . Thanks .
I was laughing so much I forgot to add it was last seen moving at considerable speed through our allotments !!
Have to disagree re: Dan Pearson. Having seen it up close and personal it is one of the most stunning creations I have seen. The detail was amazing.
BL, Chris Beardshaws garden was also stunning, the planting was beautiful. He makes real Gardens.
