I was at the Malvern Spring Show last week and overheard somebody saying that Malvern is the longest established show of its kind but only gets one half hour programme when Chelsea get a full week of coverage, why? Good question.
I accept that there aren't the number of show gardens at Malvern, but the floral marquee improves every year. Maybe a bit more work by the organising committee to pull in some of the exhibitors who only do Chelsea and things could change.
Yes, gardens, more from inside the marquees, I remember Carol Klein going from one end to the other, stopping at plants and talking all the way. There is far too much padding, and I don't watch the lunchtime programme, because very little is about gardens, all about celebrities.
The stories about the growers used to be covered on a separate programme on the sunday, but now, far too much is on during the week. I actually enjoyed it more before the BBC got their hands back on it again.
KT - Malvern has been up and running for 30 years. The Chelsea Flower Show has been at it since 1913 with breaks for the two wars and is still the most prestigious although Hampton Court is now bigger.
I think all the shows and their exhibitors deserve better coverage from the Beeb as horticulture is such a huge industry worth billions to the economy. I'd like to see Cardiff and Harrogate and covered too. Garden Scotland deserves to be covered nationwide too and not just by Beechgrove.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

When I posted this , this morning, I thought I might be opening a whole can of worms.
I'm glad that so many of you agree with me that " celebrities" are not needed and that, for many, the back stories are not the most important thing.
Last year I watched every programme, lunchtime and evening and the winner of the " peoples choice" in one of the categories had not appeared on a single programme all week, yet others had endless coverage.
Maybe it's not too late for " the powers that be" to listen? It's not been recorded yet so who knows?

I'm afraid that what most of us seem to want may not exactly be what we'll get...
But then I'm just an old cynic.

I'm definitely going to record, so that I can skip all the bits I don't like
.
Plants and no celebrity waffle. We'll almost certainly get the opposite.

it should be all about the gardens and its not.
I shall still watch it tho.
desperate to go but no one will ever go with me! sad.

Then again, Malvern isn't in London!
