Really dislike leylandii - didn't buy a nearly perfect house because 3 sides of the garden were leylandii hedging - 2m tall perfectly maintained but how much work would that be in the future? - and there was nothing else worthwhile growing in the garden.
I have to whisper that I don't really grow or even like daffodils. Can't be done with that harsh yellow, the short flowering season, the blowing flat at the first storm all followed by weeks of untidy leaves.
Much prefer hellebores, brunnera & other long flowering spring perennials whose foliage continues to 'give' something to the garden long after the flowers have gone
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Red valerian, or white for that matter! Gypsophila, coleus, aubrieta (sorry claude!) and I'm with you on crocus. I have an enormous leylandii hedge (no neighbours to offend) and whilst I don't love it, without it I'm not sure id have much of a garden, it is a fantastic windbreak for us. So I guess it's '...right plant, right place...' for the job required!!
Hate broom, golden rod, leggy lavender, tall bright yellow daffs, garish flowers like gazanias and zinnias, marigolds, nasturtums and those awful ornamental cabbages.
Whoops sorry I called you grumpy Verdun I like most plants with the exception of self seeded Michaelmus ???? Daisies what thugs but even so I can't throw them away so clear and replant them on the side of the dyke.
just remembered. what i really dislike is when someone steps on a beginning gardeners pleasure at something they,ve grown and takes half the pleasure away.
