on the question of leggy seedlings (my cosmos especially and marigold) if you bury them deeper, doesn't the wet compost rot the stems?

hi ice, i'll charge up my tablet tomorrow and try that as it was such a mission on google + and then had to transfer them to google drive (because of my privacy settings on g+) so the tablet might be easier. you would think you would be able to do it from a phone wouldn't you as most people (well me) take photos on your phone

sanjy67 cosmos flowers grow tall so leave them as they are as for the marigold some grow tall others 12in but i still wouldn't bury them deeper like you say it might affect the stem especially if you have ones with big flowering heads you'll need a strong stem.

    Hope this helps

Hopefully it'll work. Sometimes takes a while to sync.

I'll try plant them out, been saving coke bottles, though frost this morning scared me.

My other seedling don't look too good, been in a couple of weeks and very old seed, do I keep waiting or give up?

Ice - wait until your beetroot has two true leaves before planting on. If you've germinated them indoors or under cover, pot on into modules and keep indoors,GH or cold frame.

If you've just had frost the ground will be too cold to plant out. To warm the ground up you could cover it for a couple of weeks with black plastic.

  • Just wanted to say hi and that I'm new and love this thread, all those little seedlings are so exciting! I've not got any pics of mine yet, and i haven't got much as i only started sowing at easter, a bit late i know.

But I've already got radishes coming up thick and fast, sowed direct in my raised bed outside, as well as very early signs of the carrots and salad leaves - after only 9 days!

No sign of the tomatoes, peppers, peas, magnolias, begonias or lavatera yet - but i think I'm being rather impatient lol

Only just sowed some more tomatoes, chillies, and herbs today. All the seeds are in mini greenhouses as i don't have much space, just keeping the cover closed at night and opening it during the day when it's warm like it has been the last couple of days.

Only my second year growing and I'm loving it and learning a lot
