Grit and netting for me too RB. The grit also makes the pots look 'dressed'  image

Mainly on crocus and dwarf iris as they don't usually go deep enough to get daffs or tulips.

Garden's looking lovely LF - as always image

I find Homebase the best for plain terracotta pots too. Masonry paint can tart them up a bit if you want a matching, coordinated look.  My local GC is surprisingly good for fancier pots.

Masonry paint for pots is a good idea Fairygirl.

Grit certainly does make the post look dressed, and they look neater through the winter. I also like to think the grit helps stop the compost getting splashed in heavy rain. Netting is certainly a good idea if there are squizzers about.

Just an additional thought re painting pots, LF. I noticed that the Cuprinol or Ronseal paint I bought for my bench and screen is also suitable for terracotta. You may have the same one - colour looks similar -  Willow.

Might try it on some of my smaller ones which have bulbs in them image

It's a really good colour - especially for contrasting with something darker. Nice soft  tone - works well with virtually everything else in the garden, and suits any style.

I'll let you know if it works on the pots! image
