yeasterday put my seeds in alphabetical order then wrote a list of months and what I can plant. got very excited but heavy snow kept us mainly indoors today

  • Ground far to hard. Hopefully sow some viola seeds at the weekend. Need to wash off green slime from terracotta pots before going on the front door step.

Garden girl, the plants were a Lemon Queen Hellanthus, 2 'Illumination pink' foxgloves (which are supposed to be reliably perennial) and a yellow Geum 'Lady Stratheden.  Also unpacked 20 Nerine Bowdenii 5 of each 'Pink', 'Alba', 'Stefani' and 'Isabel'.

Took a good look at the garden today and saw lots of plants beginning to emerge, also saw lots of weeks.  I still haven't planted my ornamental cherry, the weather is looking good for Saturday so hoping to do a fair bit then as I will have a bit of support from Hubby re the heavy work.

Frozen here and set to stay that way for a few dayswith snow expected so no gardening other than to go out and buy the extra staples I need to secure the new windbreak fabric along the veggie plot.

Seeds ordered Monday so not even armchair gardening.

Checked my seedlings in the greenhouse (all gathered in the autumn from hollyhock, delphinium, aquilegia, etc.).  Emptied my kitchen compost and stirred the bin well. Checked on my new leaf container (handy having a hubby with DIY skills!) and stirred that too - mulching down nicely now...then gave all the garden plants a good talking to.  Shall read all my January back issues of GW over the next couple of days.  As garden centres are now 'destinations', we'll probably visit a couple of the next few days - the ones with the best coffeeshops! - and get some more ideas.  Ain't life grand?

The good news is I've painted one of the two trellis planters ready to plant up in the spring.

The bad new is, it's going to need a second coat.

Now who had the idea to paint the damn things.  Oh yes, that would be me.
