Lawn had its first cut.  Not a lot has come off it, but it looks much less tufty, and the edges are tidy.  image  More veg sown, then another couple of hours spent battling moss and liverwort in the borders.  But I was able to rescue a dozen seedlings of Primula capitata and pot them up for later...  All in all a happy day, particularly once the neighbours' bonfire had gone out.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

OH mowed lawn. I filled compost bins. Then I sieved leaf mould to pot on hellebores.

Also I potted on the delphiniums I was sent by mistake, They havn't asked for them back so I will see what they do. They don't look as good as my seedlings from last year, which I have potted on.

I think I got a bit sunburnt too. I seem a bit glowy.

I had to go to GC to get some bedding plants to match the tulips that came up red/yellow instead of the pale pink ones I thought I'd boughtimage Didn't half clash with the deep pink primulas that were in full bloom. That's the second lot that were the wrong colour, as the purple Havran ones turned out to be bright yellowimage Anybody else had the same problem this year?

Tied in the clematis, watered the witchhazel and the wisteria which has it's 1st lot of flowers - which is very early this year.  I also have cyclamen, magnolia, anemones, primroses, kerria & amelanchier all in bloom at the same time - and the 1st spear of asparagus has just popped through - as confused as meimage

i potted on some magnolias, cosmos, delphiniams , was going to do the zinnias but didn't have small enough pots & i am running out of room to put everything in my glass (supposed to be the laundry room lol) planted some chives next to the fruit trees, moved a big pot on a scateboard because OH has taken and left sack trolley somewhere and wired my 12inch pots to an old iron gate and i think i shall mount that on the wall and pot herbs in them also got sunburnt on my neck even though i had factor 30 on, i also feel very glowy

  • Nope. I sat in the garden and tried to enjoy the sunshine.

  • Mowed lawn (3rd cut of the year already!), weeded chunks of borders and almost had hysterics when I thought I was about to dig out a hosta that I had forgotten. I must get some labels that don't break apart cos of the weather...

OH finished weeding the second of three beds between terrace and pond.

I assembled trailer for mower,  gggrrrrr ( you're expected to have 3 pairs of hands I'm sure) and brought up some composted grass / leaves/ sheep poo/ stinging nettes which has been down in the wood for 18 months and used it to top up bags with spuds, and to add to raised beds in tunnels.

Carried on splitting Hostas. 55 varieties done, no idea how many more to go. Bit of a race against time as they're now all romping away.

    Devon.
  • Just seen the first Swallow of the year. Yeh! Gorgeous day with sunshine and blue sky. Shame about the keen NE wind.

  • 55 varieties Hostafan?? Blimey, no wonder you have that name!!imageimageI've got threeimagePotted up 2 Peonies from Sarah Raven sale-nice specimens, then potted up the Fuchias from the T&M offer. Again, really nice specimens. Mowed and fed the lawn, then wandered around marvelling at how everything is growing.

Wow Hostafan - how do you keep the slugs and snails away - must be paradise for them!  Just come in from sowing seed of experimental 2016 tomato from T&M (free trial through GW) - supposed to be blight resistent - we shall see... Also late sweetpeas, hopefully they will flower at the same time as the tomatoes for pollination.  Second-hand shed went up yesterday so will be able to sort out summer house and actually use it as a summer house this season.  Just been given 3 trays of seedlings by a friend (?) so loads of pricking out to do.  Weather mostly sunny today and less strength to the wind but still a bit of a nip.
