I can hear a lawn mowerimage

    Not mine.

I have stuffed lots of dried last year growth through the shredder. Very dry and dusty, still coughing.

First proper day out in the garden this year, out all day in the spring sun. Turned the compost heap which took forever, it has grown rather huge. Lifted the last remaining carrots and parsnips which I had stored in the the ground under straw. Tons of them to eat up as they kept really well.

My son and I had a competition to see who could get the biggest parsnip from the two rows. I'm sure the one he presented at the end looked very similar to the one I was sure would be the winner from my row and pile of parsnips. imageimage

Next job will be to check over the rotavator, ready to prep the soil for this years veg. image

The hawthorn hedge I put in on the run-up to Christmas has lots of buds and some new green growth showing, snow drops are up and life feels good. We also had someone in today to remove the last few Leylandii from the drive, finally after over a decade a conifer free garden. image

chillies sown on Feb 26th are starting to germinate. I reckon it was Stacey's overnight tea trick which did it.  Bless'er.

Moved the homemade planters into place, well OH did the heavy bit. I just pointed and said things like. no, that's the back, no, that one goes on the other side and over a bit , not that much, back a bit etc etc.

I finally got the courage to drastically prune back a very overgrown hedge - I think it's a viburnum but not totally convinced - gained some 2-3 ft of space and a huge pile of branches to be shredded. Unfortunately the hedge is half viburnum, half box which doesn't work well together but which I'm stuck with. I'm going to tackle the box bit (6-7 ft high, 3-4 ft wide and very old) tomorrow and I'm just praying it's going to regenerate.

I potted on 4 digitalis 'dalmation' plugs which can start spending days outside now. Still waiting for my chilli's to show signs of germination (sown on 24/02/14 - hoping!).

I have the horrible job of culling some of my tomatoe babies tomorrow - I just don't have the room to take all 8 forward image

Will hopefully have some windowsill space left for starting off my basil and coriander tomorrow. I still have to make some room for zinnia. Waiting for warmer weather to sow larkspur and salvia direct outside.

I've just got the windowledge propogator out and sorted some seeds to sow at the weekend. Can't wait any longer going.

It can be really hard to cull seedlings especally toms, I always sow far to many, can't you give some away to a good home Joneskimage.

    What are you sowing Zoomer?

I'm hoping to pot my tom's up prettily tomorrow and off-load some to my mother-in-law.

Note to self for next year - only sow 4!
