My garden is under snow. Before that I had 100 mph winds. Barely been outside in weeks.  I had bulbs delivered last week. Just itching to get outside.

Started clearing an area of the garden that has been untouched since we moved in 5 years ago. It was me against the brambles.  Hoping to make it into a cutting and veg garden with better compost area, having seen Finn and Nicky's on Britains Best back Gardens last week.  Then went to GC and bought a small fig tree.  does anyone know how fast they grow? It will be in a pot.

Yesterday, Oh lifted 7 concrete slabs off of a flower bed at Mums. Dad slabbed them over to make it easier to wash the windows (dont ask)

Anyhow, slabs removed, I forked it over, and then planted some pots of bulbs that have started growing, that I  potted up in October, some Touchwood aquilegia seedlings, 3 Hellebore washfield doubles that I grew on from seedlings from T&M last year.  These three have flower buds on. Then any old bulbs I had lying around from last years patio pots got pushed in. I had a few snowdrop bulbs left over, so found a gap between some shrubs, and while I was doing that I found an Earth Star. It was about 6 inch across. I have only ever seen photos before, so I was quite chuffed. Then it snowed.

Last night we had a hard frost , so no gardening today.

None today, cold and wet, but this is what I did yesterday. But some may have seen it as I put it on "Forkers" as this thread wasn't there then.

Frustrated! Changed into gardening outfit, took Christmas tree to bonfire and settled down to weeding and planting the last bag of forgotten tulips and a few violas. Just got stuck in when it poured. Came indoors, hair was sodden, and rain then stopped, but it's all wet and squelchy out there.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Lesley sent OH down to check and it wasn't rhubarb he took so he must have gone into another garden.

Well, I looked at the onion seeds which need going in the greenhouse. I checked the greenhouse thermometer. It was 5 C, but it had been down to 0.7C. I turned the heater up a bit. Then I went back to the house and watched Lord of the rings on DVD

Gardenmaidenimage.  At least it was nothing precious of yours.

Fidget, excuse my ignorance but what is an Earth Star?

A big fungus that opens up like a star, with a round bit like a puff ball in the middle. I got a photo, I'll put it on later. It's about 5inch across.

I've never seen an earthstar either. Plenty of photos but hadn't realised they were as big as that.

I've written labels for the seeds I'm going to sow as soon as I've had another cup of coffee, GH warming up nicely and hopefully compost is thawingimage
