We are all learning all the time. Even we ol'boys who think we know it all, from experience, sometimes want to try something new, and, in any case many of the old ways are no longer the best .
Since joining this forum I've been helped in so many ways from recognising a plant/shrub to the caring of plants and many ideas to personal support. I've made some very dear 'friends' who mean a lot to me and I would miss them as much as my dearest friends I actually see.
My 'real' friends are not really interested in gardening as such and I'm quite a newbie to it too. I'm very grateful of all the help I've had from this forum and long may it continue.
I don't really see why we all have explain why we use this forum for how much or little we use it, its nobodies business but our own. Some people on here might not be in touch with many friends so it could be their lifeline.
But as somebody said the first poster of this thread has disappeared and not quoted again
Yep have taken on about 4xsize old plot & it's sunny (!) with awful soil..... I dont know what I expected, but after 20+yrs of soil improvement & part shade it's a steep learning curve. Could be expensive too..... but have realised that I cant do it all at once! J.
It's nice to have the space and the challenge Jo I bet your really enjoying it,do you have contact with any of the other northern boarders I often think of that day we had at Harlow Carr, gardening has become a big part of my life since that day
Today is my day off. I've come on to the forum over six or so times today as I sit down and take a break or go to prod my laptop for something else.
Were I not looking at this website I'd be looking at my work emails. Something that I am aware I do far too easily and is not good for my mental health.
I find this forum not only fantastic for the information members (and the website itself) can give me as I navigate the muddy puddles and over enthusiastic green thumbs of a gardening newbie but for the sense of companionship and genuine concern over the well being of others.
So whatever the intent of this original poster I just want to say
Well I think everyone has got the right balance ... for themselves. Some post very regularly, some regularly, some infrequently and others very infrequently. I'd say I was an infrequent poster but a very regular visitor to the forum. I've learned loads and I too love the fact that if I've got a problem with my garden or there is something that I don't understand, I can guarantee I'll get answers almost immediately. Long may the forum continue just as it is
Here I am again! Well, well, what a response. I was just fascinated by what my fellow humans do. Most folk would agree that it is best to have an enquiring mind. Hence never bored.

That's a very good point Peanuts3
I used to post on the RHS forum, but replies are so few and far between there is absolutely no point any more
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

That happens quite often......annoying!
I may not post v often these days but am glad to 'see' regulars still contributing their knowledge etc.
A lot of them are ex beeb MBs & to lose that wealth of knowledge would be criminal!
I joined those MBs in 08 & even after many yrs of gardening I still had lots to learn. Still do....
Memo to self: sign in more often.
