  • I'm (sort of) retired though still do some part-time work.  I usually look at this message board at some time during the day - after checking e-mails etc - and only contribute if I think I've got something helpful to say!  There have been times - on another topic - when Frank, DK and I had "a bit of a go" at the producers & presenters of an historical-type series which was full of absolute inaccuracies which we found annoying!

It  sounded a bit critical didn't it?  but Cowslip may not have intended it that wayimage

I wonder if Daniel Haynes, editor of this website, has seen all these posts? I would be feeling rather pleased if I were in his shoes.image

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • come, come, enough of that false modesty.  Before I discovered this site, I used to regularly google my queries.  However, nothing compares to the wealth of knowledge I can gleam from this site.  I really want to thank and name names of all those people I so often enjoy reading but am terrified I might leave someone out in error.

When I do google I never manage to find the websites that Dove somehow continually supplies to GW - excellent info..

Also cowslip, you only have to look at the 'worries and troubles' thread to see the names of many of those regular contributors both suffering anquish and giving support, to realise this site provides empathy which may not be obtainable elsewhere.

Superior Knowledge??? no way, we come on here because we have made all the mistakes and hate to think of other people wasting time and money doing the same. If it saves time and money then I will write all day to help, my take on it is an expert is one chapter ahead of you in the book.

Hello H.C.F, ah the good old days where our knowledge of how things were done made the so called historians look like beginners but then we did it they read it in books. Hope all is well with you often think about the old crowd and smile, as I do reading posts on here though have to admit do not understand some of them.

    Frank.

I love this forum, everyone is so friendly. I do post now and again, I suppose I am a dipper, I dip in and out. The knowledge of some forum members is just brilliant, they have helped me out several times with queries.image

  • good advice, friendship, laughter, commiserations, hugs ... it's all here... where else can we get all that, freely given?

  • have just looked at the definition of superior and it can be regarded as of ' high standard or quality '.  That is how I regard the info I glean from this site.

A few years ago I was working 50 hours++ a week for social services and had virtually no knowledge of gardening as never had the available time, but now I'm retired I propagate perennials and sell them at a farm shop.  Anything I need to know I can either post on here or go on the search box.

Talking of quality,  I have occasionally been known to pass on some of Verdun's jokes!

I stopped doing that 14 months ago -  I'm still trying to get used to being allowed to play in the garden all day if I want to image

haven't read all the comments, but just wanted to say I'm grateful for all of the regular contributors.  I know if I post a question, it will be answered pretty soon and that is another reason this forum works, if people didn't post regularly it wouldn't be so interesting and informative.

So keep it up, you're all doing a great job at helping so many us learn new things every day imageimageimage
