I agree with Gemma. I contribute every day and am a very active 86 year old trying to keep mind and body in tiptop condition. It took much longer to write a diary by hand so IT has made us all a lot more productive. Most of the Forum contributors probably only spend a few minutes on line as gardening takes up hours of their time most days.
Hi all I don't think I can claim to be a regular contributor ... Yet! But am working on it.
I drop in very frequently and ask for advice now and again. I don't feel qualified to give any yet! we have a large previously neglected garden (and house refurbishment project) and I work full time (OH is a self employed folk musician).
I love the forum and my garden project has benefitted from all the available support and advice. I am only frustrated by the limited time I have to garden and contribute to the forum And the constant tension between reading and learning .. And doing!
Btw out of interest, is anyone going to see Monty Don on his current theatre tour? I live near Lowestoft in Suffolk and have booked for The Apex in bury St Edmunds.
I've been absent for a couple of weeks and have missed my virtual friends (who are very important to me) and many of them have missed me, just as Hostafan has mentioned previously. I think that's lovely when you consider all the horrible people around on the internet.
We're a community of like minded people who can offer advice, laughs and support in equal measure. I'm a single parent with two older children who live with me. I've built a garden here in the two years since I moved in, as well as working and doing all the other things a household requires although my girls help a bit too. I have time to contribute regularly simply because I enjoy it. Simple.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I'm a university student who technically works two jobs, but all my work is done on a computer. I usually have the forum running in the background while I write or draw, and comment whenever I can. It helps me work when I've got some sort of contact with the outside world and to talk about something other than "Number of frames" or "is this animated on 1s or 2s"
Haha! Plus I love to garden and I'm a complete novice.
Has anyone noticed the absence of Cowslip. Another WUM who lights the blue touch paper and retires. Something not quite right about people who have to spend their spare time doing that instead of getting on and doing something useful.
Without this forum, I don't think that I would have made the effort to do what I have with my garden-As long as it was neat and tidy, I wasn't too bothered. Now, I have the 'bug', and I have plans for changes to the boring bits of my garden that are covered in gravel, many more flowers and fruit and veg.
And it is nice to look in on other people to see what is going on, and chatting occasionally to other people.I agree with you Lesley K-it doesn't matter, it gives the forum members a chance to pat themselves on the back instead. More power to us!!
