I'm 24, I work and I usually have my laptop on next to my side when I'm at home, alongside doing other bits and pieces. I like popping by every so often seeing new responses and topics, alongside doing various bits and pieces. Nothing wrong with that at all I don't think.
We have no need to justify or apologise we are free spirits. Well and truly retired I consider the forum as a club for like minded people whose main interest is gardening. Not doing any of the other mediums, face book etc. and it being winter here in the NE forget the garden until the end of Feb. Helping budding gardeners who did not have the garden orientated up bringing we had gives me pleasure, what I do with my time is up to me feeling guilty is not me, expect more posts until people tell me to Bogor.
I wrote this on my I-pad whilst watching "Sky fall" who said men cannot multi task.
I remember a programme called 'Why Don't you Swtich Off your TV and Go and Do Something Less Boring Instead'...thing is...first...you needed to switch on to watch the programme to benefit from it.
Gardening is one of my hobbies, which friends and family benefit from, we've had many a warm summer day or evening, sat in the garden, talking and spending time together, either after a bar-b-cue, cooking a meal or just chatting ...and...as an added bonus they've taken cut flowers home. Their children know about herbs, have eaten fresh fruit and veg, can pick their own, and can't wait for the strawberry season to start.
I expanded this year and aquired an allotment. If anyone has ever taken on an overgrown plot it's no easy task. Even the most fittest amongst us knows when they've dug over an area. Apart from the benefits of growing your own, it's been like a green gym, I've met like minded people, even bumped into some at national gardening events, local growing nurserys and GC's...
...I could go on...the point is...switch on...like TV all those years ago...the inertnet opens up a whole new media for people to gain knowledge and communicate with like minded people...dip your toe in the water..take what you want or need rather than focus on how often a poster has posted.
If you organise your time properly, you can do everything you need to do and find time to contribute to forums.
My life is not my own through the day, its spent sorting washing in various stages from dirty to dry, cleaning, shopping, emptying and disposing of allsorts of unmentionables, cooking lunches, cooking meals at night, usually 2 different ones,
I have a big garden, which I look after almost single handed, being well organised I can fit everything in and still find time to post on 3 forums, usually when everything is done and my aged parents are asleep, then its 'me time'.
Most of my posts are made in the 'Vampire hours', Fortunately. I have a very patient and understanding OH as long as I turn the brightness down on the tablet he doesnt mind.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I was reading 'Mr Digwell' one of my birthday presents last night, it talked of a time when gardening was more social, when neighbours talked over the fence about runner beans. Now I'm not saying that never happens these days, but I think less often as neither of my neighbours have veg. So for me this forum is replacing that missing knowledge from those with more experience. What I really didn't expect is the other social aspect of this forum, it is packed with genuinely nice and caring people, what more could anyone ask
I probably post a lot, but I sure get work done. As for paid work, it is seasonal, I run contracts in the spring and summer, the rest of the time is my own and that is just the way I like it. I usually visit the forum first thing over a cup of coffee, drop back in if I'm having a break from the garden and even occasionally take up residence if my back is playing me up and I need an hour or two to sit down.
In all though I agree with KEF, if people want to contribute what harm is there? It is nice to see a forum so active these days. Most of the population is spending vast amounts of time posting fragmented messages on social media and wouldn't know what physical work is. I think we are doing far better than that.

cowslip, with 37 posts: does that make you a "regular contributer" or not?
Where does one draw the line?
Leap years are " regular" , but only once in 4 years. Just a thought. xx

So right Pauline, brings a bit of sanity to the day, or night!
I contribute and chat because I want to, it is my time and my choice

I'm a bit late to this thread, having spent yesterday out doing other things
I think everything's been said
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
