Just try to imagine the perfume from the Sweet William, the mock orange blossom, the pinks, the roses, the lavender now flowering everywhere and the other fragrant herbs.

Wow! I love the photos, Marion.  I noticed your raised beds, are they for your Vegs?

They have mostly veg. in Pat but quite a few flowers too to bring in the pollinators for the peas and beans and one has red and blackcurrants and strawberries in it.  i had them built when i reached 85 so as not to have to bend and dig so much.

my veg beds are also raised, but we had to use what we call besser blocks instead of timber because of termites.  I felt that the choice of concrete blocks far outweighed the other choice of treated timber for veg because of the chemicals they use to treat the timber.   I currently have kale, silverbeet, turnips in.

Forecast for Bristol is unbroken sunshine for the whole day and it is warm already.  Which means I am confined to the coolest room in the house because of my heart condition and can only feel grateful for Wimbledon to keep me from getting frustrated.!  I will water in the conservatory with all the vents, windows and doors open. then retreat back to the study and my laptop.  Retail therapy comes to mind but I must think of my carbon footprint now and that would mean delivery by van.  If only every new delivery van bought from now on ran on eco-friendly fuel!  If I was Prime Minister I would use draconian laws like that to help people like me with carbon consciences so they could shop online in heatwaves with clear consciences.  I could then search for low carbon footprint plants and seeds and order them.  Bristol has been the Green Capital of Europe for six months now but, surrounded as it is by the M4 and M5 the air pollution on hot days is horrendous.  We need a tree corridor both sides of all motorways.

Marion, I'm glad you're sensible enough to try to stay cool.  such a good idea about the green corridor along the motorways - it would make a huge difference. what temperature are they predicting?  Hope you enjoy the tennis.

Latest says 36 for London. 33 Bristol .  Lots of advice to stay indoors and avoid drinking tea, coffee or alcohol.  Wimbledon may be curtailed if it gets too hot,  I have 12 of the family visiting next weekend so lots to do but only in the cool of the evenings or early morning.  Thunderstorms that may bring flash flooding is being warned by the weathermen as well.
