We have sun but very cold indeed Still a hard frost as it was -4 at seven am. I think I will do some housework and go shopping in the morning as I have a friend coming to supper and may venture out in the garden in the afternoon when +4 is forecast.
A little bit warmer today in Bristol so hope to get some gardening done. My twigs of forsythia were much admired by my supper guests last night. It is such a cheap and cheerful way to get some colour into the house in February.
Plus 4 degrees already in Bristol this morning though cloudy but should get some gardening done outside. I have opened up the cold frame to let the salad stuff in there have some air. The gazanias I sheltered in there are fine but some outside were dispatched by the frost. Still some have grown so big i will be able to divide them later. At the end of February I plan to sow some of my broad bean seeds saved from last year in the conservatory, divide a few hundred snowdrops and plant in the green and sow some annual flower seeds - sticking to my pledge of not using any fossil fuel to garden this year. That will be two months in a row.
Very similar day to yesterday weatherwise though it seems a little brighter. I should be able to get some tidying up done outside, especially where I want to plant more of my snowdrops, a part of the garden mostly occupied by nettles at the moment. That is a job which will need my new gauntlet leather gloves that came at Xmas.
i was over your way this morning Marion, picking my friends daughter up from school. I was playing "guess which front garden is Marion's". I probably failed miserably, there are a few nice looking front gardens around there. Admittedly, I normally drive to my friends but this morning I needed the walk, and it did me good! On the way back, I walked the very long way, down to the ford to see if any of the daffs are out yet. There is one that is very close but all the others seem to have gone to sleep!
It is no. 90. Fruitcake and the side gate by the garage is always open during the day so if you get no answer from tapping on the kitchen door just come up the garden path to find me. Be warned it is quite a walk as I am working in the Butterfly garden at the moment which is the last "room". And veer left and under the Bramley rather than right through the spinney as I have cleared the brambles from the path in the former but not the latter yet. I may have daffs in flower before the ones at the ford.
I think you may find yourself with a visitor sometime next week I will prearrange it though as the thought of turning up unannounced makes me feel a little uncomfortable
the sun has unexpectedly come out so I'm off down the greenhouse
