Thanks Hazel I still reckon your sunflowers will still get over 7ft ask ya mam how she got a 16ftr he he

The sweetpea flowers smell amazing and there is loads still to flower . I have an arch going over my gate and planted sweetpea there was hoping they'd climb up and cover it but for some reason they have slowed down and only got to 1mtr but the others are nearly 2mtrs next to my fence mind boggles why some grow tall and others don't so I'll be looking for a high climber next year so any ideas would be great

    Thanks

Hello 1Runnybeak1 hope you are well.

I see what you mean about the sweetpeas i was going to build tall slim flower boxes the height of the fence and wish i had done as they might of give me the effect we were looking but i'll know for next year .Got to say they are smelling great this year and the plants you see are seeds i collected last year and i'll do the same again this year.

Hopefully the sunflowers are pointing the right way as i think they'll look brilliant when they flower.

Still not hopefull on the cabbages as the leaves are wilting on the bottom on some of them plus they have a purple tinge on the leaves which i was told off a neighbour ,who is having the same problem as me, is a tell tale sign that they are affected image  .

The Black GS is our little Princess she is called Xena .She was a rescue and we were only supposed to be fostering her till she got her forever home but after meeting her the first time i knew she found it with us.

    Thanks for your comments

Are you sure about the cabbage root fly? The ones in the photo look OK. Are they going droopy and wilting? Next year you could try making them collars from cardboard or felty material to fit around them when you plant them out. Helps stop the fly getting in close enough to lay the eggs. Or you could make a frame or tunnel with fine mesh.

Hi Busy-Lizzie yes it's definitely cabbage root fly I've already pulled one and it had the larva and some of the leaves on others are drooping so even though I treat the infected area with jeyes fluid in don't think it's going to save them all.

As for next year I'm going to put weed killer sheet down put slits in it and plant the cabbages also put collars around them like you said.

It's disappointing but these things happen

    Thanks

    Hello Everyone

Just had our first early potatoes and they tasted amazing you can't beat what you grow.

Peapods are getting fatter and taste sweet.
