I think the NHS is an incredible service and we are lucky to have it. But I do think something needs to change. They need a major overhaul. Without starting a debate about the NHS which I am certainly ignorant of the in's and out's of. I'm sure there are plenty of cases in which people should be made to pay for time wasting.
My husband worked very briefly for a care company that take on NHS aftercare packages mainly to those that would likely die. I have heard some inside horror stories about this particular company. I feel very sorry for anyone reliant on them. Thankfully you have the hospice team Lyn so some help. I don't know your particular story but as you mention hospice team I can work out your have plenty on your shoulders. I'm sending you a big virtual hug. X
The trouble is that the hospice team can only help for 72 hours, they came last Sunday for the first time, should have only been until Tuesday morning, they still kept coming until yesterday morning when they said they couldnt come anymore and the care package should be in place. She said that all the time they come, NHS. Wont bother!
I have heard nothing.
I phoned the hospice this morning and was told they could not come out anymore and to ring the NHS emergency doctors/nurses.
And.. would you believe, they know nothing! She is looking into it and someone will phone me later.
I didnt ask for help, even though several people on here said I should, when I was at the end of my tether, I did ask, that was almost 3 weeks ago now.
The NHS is a good service, when you can get some help they are very good, its just getting them. OH said if it was privatized they would all pull their socks up!
It must be good, everyone wants to come here and use it, we are the only country with it. It seems such a shame that my mum has got to 87 and no one wants to help us .

Lyn I can't speak Well actually I can ! When they phone back if they haven't arranged some help please say that you understand that they have a duty of care and unless you get some help today they will need to support two not one !! I would also consider looking up the number for your emergency / out of hours social work team and tell them what is or rather isn't happening. Please let us know what happens x
Lyn ((hugs)) sorry to hear you're having such a tough time - all I can suggest is that you keep phoning your Adult Social Services team and get your GP to do the same - the hospice may be willing to make a phone call too - sadly, with the huge caseloads currently overwhelming some social workers and care managers, in many cases those who shout the loudest that get to the top of the heap - it shouldn't be like that but it is. The overworked managers sometimes feel that if someone isn't shouting then they must be coping. It's not always understood that sometimes family carers don't have the time or energy to shout
It can also be helpful to phone the office and ask for a copy of their Complaints Procedure - that will usually catapult you to the attention of a manager!
Good luck - thinking of you ((hugs))
Edited to say: I posted the above before your last post - DEFINITELY ask for a copy of their Complaints Procedure - also log every phone call you make and let them know you're keeping a record.

Lyn I'm so sorry that you're having such an awful time. I can't offer any useful advice like KEF and Dove but I'm thinking of you and your family and can only hope that the help you need materialises very soon. (Hugs)
Knowing what I do about your situation Lyn, it makes me very angry. Looking after your Mum these last months you have made Florence Nightingale look like an amateur.
I think the NHS is overburdened these days, lots of reasons for that but I don't want to get political. The bottom line though is that you need some respite.

Lyn, so sorry to hear you still haven't had any care package put into place.
Wish I lived close by, I would come over to help in any way I could. Take care of yourself too, thinking of you. Love and best wishes xx
How about a work party then folks, free holiday on Darmoor, you'l love it
I did get a district nurse this morning, no care in place I really dont think its the job of a fully trained nurse to wash and change bedding.
It would cost them far more to keep her in a care home. They are just not available, I offered to pay but thats not the answEr.
Seriously though, thank you all for your good wishes kind thought and so on, really appreciated.
