Thank You, everyone for your thoughts.. Funeral went OK. Wake was a bit awkward. Funeral was at 9.30 am, so wake at 10.30. Tea and coffee and buffet provided at a local inn. Entertainment provided by watching who would go to the bar for an alcoholic drink first.
At least he had 84 healthy years before his sudden deterioration.
I feel desperately sorry for the family in Glasgow that lost two parents and a daughter, in the bin lorry tragedy.
CN, sorry for your pain, sounds tough.Very difficult time of year for a lot of people, know that doesn't help you much.
Kef - you sound so brave, making the best of things and thinking of others too, not an easy day.
Very best wishes to all suffering at this time of year when we can so easily be made to feel like failures if not living up to the unrealistic expectations. Hugs to all.

While reading through the posts of the wonderful people on these boards, I'm hearing the radio keep telling me its 'the most wonderful time of the year'. Really? It may be if you live in cloud-cuckoo land where reality is what happens to other people. But here I see pain and tremendous courage simultaneously played out by good people living in that reality. And I am humbled, really.

Just for the record - who did go to the bar first?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

As someone said today, no one has a Christmas like they do on the adverts
To all those who feel alone, I hope you are not,
to all those who feel pain, I pray for your relief,
to all those who feel down, I hope your spirits are lightened
to all those who are worried, I hope you can find solutions
Things always seem worse at Christmas but miracles can happen and I wish all
the dear people on this thread the comfort and joy of the season.
Merry Christmas and a healthy happy and peaceful 2015
