  • Fishy, hope your Dad is ok. Blood in urine can mean a kidney infection and antibiotics will clear that up quite quickly. Still not nice but hopefully thats all it is.

Very best wishes to you and your Dad. Hugs x

Sounds like my mum fishy, she is still in hospital, they did an ultra sound scan on her kidneys, we may get the results on Monday, hopefully.

They are not even thinking cancer so dont be worried just yet.

My dad has been going on like that for years, he has had two ops, bits took away and all number of horrible things.

Try and get him so see the doc, and please try not to worry until you know something for sure.

Old men are prone to all sorts of waterworks problems, they are not always cancer.

My mum still hasnt grasped the importance of water and the stoma, she cant understand why she feels better when she has hardly drunk anything, she has had saline drip in for 3 days!

I tried to explain it medically but she just looks a bit vague,  she wonders how I know.

I told the nurses tonight to keep her bed warm cos she will be back, It did make her laugh though

He is still going on at turned 90. Blood does not always mean the worst, you would be best not looking up  things like that on the internet, we used to have a medical book and by the time we had finished reading it we had everything going.

  • Fishy, I hope your dad is ok.  Blood in the urine can be serious but it may not be, my mum was showing it a few months ago, several tests etc later and it was something and nothing in the grand scheme of things. It still meant a minor op but nothing life threatening or too intrusive.  Keeping everything crossed that it is the same for your dad and sending hugs.  The support from most people on here helped me when I was really worried and I'm sure it will help you too xx

Mike,SGL,Lyn and OL - many thanks for your kind concern,it really is greatly appreciated.

OK he has been admitted. I called the out of hours GP this morning and she passed us on to A&E. We went from there to the ward,he now has a catheter in and his urine is reddish. They are doing a scan tomorrow. The GP seemed to suspect a UTI judging from her notes but then he didn't have a temperature which to me suggests something else. The big C is always there at the back of my mind but its amazing what you can deny when you really try. He had part of his prostate removed three years ago which makes me think.

Lyn - I agree about looking up info on the web,a little knowledge is a dangerous thing they say. So now its a waiting game. Though the patient himself seems cheerful in the circumstances.

  • Fishy, sorry to hear your dad is in hospital, but at least he can get the best care. Hope all goes well with the tests tomorrow. Will be thinking of you. Hugs and very best wishes love Lily x

You did right in getting dad in hospital, the scan will show whats what, maybe a long job, mum is having another scan tomorrow, they are in the best place.

Are you close to the hospital, ours is a nightmare, well the car park is, then finding your way round the hugest building.

Please keep us posted, let us know how he gets on, and please tell him  my thougts are with him.
