Mick, Why not put up some bamboo screen fencing at the top of your trellis in the short term. Its not particularly sturdy but should hold in place until your plants have grown and thickened up. My friend has used it to surround his BBQ area which is overlooked and its worked really well.
I too have inherited a montana rubens that has smothered 2 30ft conifers at the bottom of the garden, it doesnt cause the trees any problem and it is absolutely stunning when it flowers but cant see a fence being able to cope with it.

Right so im gonna change my plans again to incorporate at least 1 x amandii on one trellis which will have annuals also to give it colour in summer.
I would also like a trellis with montana which i will leave 3 meter space around for vigorous growth.
I will purchase an extra trellis and may grow honeysuckle, passiflora etc on just for a nice change
This forum software is pretty crappy btw compared to other far more user friendly ones
Have emailled you
Im gonna go buy another trellis then paint em same colour as fence.
Once I've positioned them correctly and fixed them to the fence I'll get a pic sent and then another when plants are in.
Didnt have a clue yesterday but now feel a little more prepared so appreciate all the help.
