BTW DavidK, my hubby knows all about you (and everyone else!!) helping me. In fact, he actually asked me if I wanted to go out to various nurseries/garden centres yesterday - that never happens! We're both really enjoying the garden now thanks to my new found obsession with roses. But more importantly, the right ones.

Hi Dave.  Great thread. Although I have to admit, not all has bee read by me.  Sadly I tend to tire out now and again.  Tell me.  Are you a member of the Royal Nation Rose Society?

Thanks, Mike....Although I'm no longer a member of The Royal National Rose Society, I was when I used to show them in the 60s, as I was with The National Sweet Pea Society.

As I said in my opener, over my very long love affair with gardening, I've specialised (to show standard) in just sweet peas & roses......both (IMHO) queen of flowers.

Hi Rosemummy, I am jealous! That said, we're not far from Leeds Castle in Maidstone. We were meant to go yesterday, but instead got side-tracked by the vast array of roses en route at a nursery... I fully intend to get there though.

I'm sure your garden is just fine as it is, rosemummy.

Several polls taken over the years have consistently resulted in roses being voted the nations favourite, followed closely by the sweet pea.....so no surprise there then! image

  • Btw, I would have liked to know (as I recommended it) if Lizzie had visited the restaurant during her visit to David Austen's nursery.

DavidK and Busy-Lizzie, can you recommend anywhere I can order The Pilgrim? At the moment I can only find it in bare root from which means I won't get it until Nov this year onwards and would really love to get hold of it now... image. I have googled, but would rather go on a recommendation in terms of a supplier/retailer. Is it known by any other name at all? Thanks
