Can anyone recommend a way to make stakes to use for levelling, I am going to need quite a few (about 50) so looking for cheap ideas.

Buy some lengths of 2 x 2 and cut them up?

Or roofing battens - they are quite cheap.

Well it has been slow progress, I didn't get much done this weekend as it was time for me to spend the weekend with the wife and kids. I feel like I am getting there although I am starting to get an issue with mares tail, I now have the garden clear except a spot of mares tail that has been treated again tonight, I spend an hour tonight picking up lose roots, stones leaves and twigs ect.

My next stage is to level out the high spots, continue to pick up debris, then peg out ready for the topsoil that is coming mid August.

Well I have managed to peg out the garden ready for topsoil, I have marked it out in 2 meter squares. Having done this I can now see how uneven the garden is so I have my work cut out when the top soil comes and I start to level things.

I also started to paint the fence panels this weekend, All of the panels and not in a great condition but will last another year or so, two will need replacing ASAP.

If you are trying to level large areas it's definitely worth investing in a landscaping rake.  They are much wider than a standard garden rake and much more effective at leveling.

Thanks. I do have a rather large landscaping rake. It would be hard work without it.

Well the top soil is ordered and coming mid august, I am now looking for some seed, I want a hard wearing lawn due to kids and dog so am looking for a mix of Ryegrass and red fescue.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. the are is around 90sm
