Thanks Buddyboy that is a big help, I will get the weedkiller down this weekend, and give everything else some thought while I wait, the forecast is not looking to good for the weekend but am hoping for a dry 24hr spell so I can get spraying.

Well I put down the weedkiller this evening as it looks like this will be the only dry 24hr we have for a week. I hope I have put enough down, I used in total 7.5lt to 300ml. I done the lawn, all surrounding weeds and the patio. It is hard to judge how much to spray but I think everything was wet.

How soon should I start to see it working? I know it can take up to 3 weeks.

No sign of anything happening as yet, I am not sure if the rainbwe have had has affected things or if it is me being impatient. On a side note I can not post on the forum from my PC as I just get a blank box but can post from my phone

Looks like the grass is now dead, I am impressed with the weedkiller. What would be the best way to lift the old lawn, it is a smallish lawn so can not really justify a turf cutter.

Yes I understand, I think. Basically cut a spade sized square and lift from inderneat . I think the double digging, although sounding tbe most practical will be to time comsumming for me

Lol, I lift for a living, day in day out, if I was going to get a hernia I would have by now, I am going to lift it over the weekend and start to turn the garden over by hand rather than use a rotavator.

I am just glad we have had plenty of rain today as it should make it a little easier for me.

Spending a few hours in the garden also gives me a little peace away from the wife and kids. image

Would I get away with putting the old turf in the garden waste bin or would there be too much soil?

You will be amazed at how bulky the sods will be. Not for your green bin! A trip to the local dump is called for I think. Unless you want to stack it upside down in an unused part of the garden. It will eventually break down. The secret with double digging is that you bury it!

Thanks guys, I know the council are funny about soil in green bins, double digging sound great but I feel it will take me too long to do this by myself. Maybe a trip to the tip is on the cards.

Although, where the path of stone was there is quit a dip all around, if I dug up the lawn and laid it upside down where the path was, would that wok?
