OL I'm sure yours will be fine if others grow the plants you named. Mind you the guy who "loved" there before you might have had weird garden activities
Flaming iPad thinks I 'love' everything KEF I am beginning to wonder actually if frost may have got it last year, it hasn't done anything since we got it really about 3 year ago!!!
Re the guy who lived here, DIY skills not the best and loads of stones and glass still being found int the garden so goodness knows what he did!!!!
What is a Mecanopsis and why is everyone talking about them? Are they the must have plant now that my hellebores have nearly finished?
I could be naughty and say yes you've gotta have at least 6. I'm talking about the blue Himalayan Meconopsis that Pdoc can grow in his garden that I've killed twice and can't even germinate the seeds.
I did not used to be able to grow them, but I loved them so much, because of many Scottish holidays, that I kept trying.
Verdun is right; cool, semi-shade, moist conditions preferred and leaf mold seems to have helped.
They are not long lived so I sow seed each year, in the autumn, in an unheated greenhouse, the winter cold seems to help them germinate. Last years seeds have just germinated and should flower next year. Most of the existing plants seemed to have started growing, so my collection is increaing. Sorry does that sound like I am bragging, if not then I am.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I dont seem to be able to germinate bought seed for M. baileyii or grandis or sheldonii. The only ones I germinate are seed taken from a plant that has flowered in the garden. So I buy a plant, (last years is just poking through), and when it flowers I will save the seed. Some years it grows like cress, others it just damps off.
Well I read KEF's post and Verdun's and that has told me all I need to know......I haven't achieved gardening know how status sufficiently enough to even contemplate growing them LOL!! I'll leave that to the experts and just admire the pics

But the feeling when it flowers.....
