I'm sorry I was called into work to-day as this thread has been one of the best I've read so far on the site. ( maybe it's the subject matter ? )

I'm very lucky to have space and I tend to gravitate more towards the bigger growers. In my last garden I had a specimen Sum and Substance which was 0.9m tall and 1.8m wide.

Last year I bought  Jurassic Park and  Empress Wu and I hear great things about the size these  can achieve. Fingers crossed.

I've certainly been impressed and very grateful for all the help on the thread.  Wow, you're so lucky to have that much space.  I looked longingly at all the big ones.  Maybe one day ...

*Sorry Hostafan 1, I seem to have messed up that quote

Charley D, you are the star. You've started a thread which has sparked the most remarkable responses and every one positive. Unfortunately , some "threads" seem to bring out the worst in some people  with a bit of bitchyness and bad manners: yours however has brought out the best in us, and for that , I ,and I'm sure many more , give thanks.  BUY MORE HOSTAS.  tee hee.

It's ok Anthony, you just go ahead and make me green with jealousyimage   Because of other more pressing work in the garden, I haven't prepared my "Hosta Corner" yet but it's next ont the list so I'm really excited about that.

Seriously, I'm so happy that you've received your hostas - I feel your excitement image  Could you post a photo of the titanic and blue hawii - what they look like now, so I can get an idea what to expect?  How many hostas did you get?  Are you able to plant them out today?  Sorry for all the questions ... can't think of anything more exciting than to receive hosta plants on your doorstep image  Let us know how you get on with the planting ... and post as many photos as you can.

the other hostas i got were Blue Hawaii, june, titanic, winter snow and minuteman.as  the hostas are just roots i diged a hole big to take the roots faned out flat and back filled with top soil mixed with compost watered and thats done.if dry for a few days eg no rain i then give water just dont let them dry out.

    hope this helps.

PS in the pick there is 5 maybe 6 plants when you order your hostas remember you will only get one single bit but trust us on here they will grow fast.

  • verdun just re read your post about companies hyping up there plants. EG when looking a round for my titanic host some said that it wouldgrow to 4.5feet in the first year others said 3 feet . i know this is a giant host but i will see how it grows this year.

Thanks for posting the photo Anthony.  Wow, it's amazing what beautiful plants come out of such a humble beginning.  Good luck with yours, I'm sure they'll be great.
