Hi Anthony. I hope you're making a speedy recover after your eye op. Those naughty slugs! I'm sure you won't be long getting on top of them though. I thought we hadn't heard from you for a while. Check out our new thread on hostas just called "Hostas". Hostafan has highlighted a virus that effects hostas. I've also posted a photo of my very first hosta I'll be taking another couple of the progress soon and I'll put it on that thread. Things are going well over here on the Isle of Man
I've just had a reply from the guy who runs a hosta nursery I use, I've posted his reply for your information:
Hello Andrew, lovely to hear from you, perhaps though not on the virus front though! Sorry to have to say that it is HVX on the gold standard. Best thing to do is to dig them out, and all the soil around them that might contain any root fragments, skip the lot, then put some clean soil in the hole. I still wouldn't risk planting any hostas there for a few years, Heucheras or Iris or something maybe, for a few years until any Hosta root has completely rotted away. I'd probaboy buy a spade specially for the task as well, then dispose of that too, just as a belt and braces approach.
