Am still learning and slug pellets whilst a nice blue - slugs do not look pretty once they have tasted them! Now on beer traps but have to be honest - slugs piddled on beer and swollen look pants too but hey oh they have had a good time! Sorry still can't pick them up to fling into the night!

Wow Anthony, your hostas are doing really well.  Thanks for the updates. What deterrent did you decide to use for the slugs and snails?

At long last, I'm expecting mine to be delivered on Friday.  Plot all ready ... so excited image

  • hi CharleyD

glad your plot is now ready.as for slugs and snails I use wildlife friendly pellets as I have a dog that sometimes gets over my fence.as  you saw my blue hawii did get bit gust as it popped up imageimage. what hostas did you order mate

P.S don't forget to soke them for a hour and put some more compost in the holes when planting them

I know, I'll have to concentrate really hard when I plant them, because I'll be so excited.  I ordered (along with loads of other plants to go with the hostas and other areas of the garden):-

Fire and Ice, Touch of Class, White Feather, Canadian Blue x 2, Halcyon, Whirlwind, Fortunei Patriot.  I'm putting astilbes and other plants in the same plot so hopefully, it will be a mass of colour soon.

  • should look really nice look forward to some pics as they come up

The new, organic approved, ferrous based slug pellets work well and don't produce unsightly trails of slimy, oozing corpses.  The slugs hide and die out of sight and no other wildlife or pets are harmed.

Scatter thinly, but regularly from about St Valentine's day or a bit later if it's a cold winter.  That way you get the perishers as they emerge from hibernation or hatch from eggs and before they've had time to munch or breed.
